DOH, Sterling 10.25 axle vent snapped off

Finishing up the overhaul on the entire brake system, I was removing the rear hydraulic brake line and twisted off the axle vent bolt that also holds the line on the axle. I'd go to a yard, but I'm in the rust belt. It will be a lesson in frustration, I'd bet many will snap before I get one...

    Electric Vac Pump?

Yeah, I replaced the rotten coffee can when I bought the truck. The PO had the trans replaced with a local shop rebuild but coulnd't get it to shift right. He was trying to adjust things but didn't realize he simply had to vac.

    More problems

I'm no expert, but crack the fuel lines on the injectors one at a time while the motor is running. If the tick clears up then you know which is suspect, but I'm not sure if that isolates if it is a fuel problem or not.

    Electric Vac Pump?

Thats a good word of warning to anyone without hydro. Anyone notice a difference on the buttdyno? Any need for a cutoff circuit once a certain level is met? The pump is ok to run continuous?

    Electric Vac Pump?

Anyone ever take their mechanical vac pump out and use an electric vac pump? I have a hydro booster, so I don't risk much by going electric. Will loosing a belt driven component like the vac pump free up load on the engine at all?

    Militec-1 in an IDI

All I can speak of is in regard to firearms, and it is fantastic for that if used per the instructions - not your typical apply and forget lube. If it does the same thing in a vehicle, I have no doubt it will work well. If applied right, service weapons can be fired dry without wear. I would...

    Militec-1 in an IDI

    Militec-1 in an IDI

Whoa, the stuff is expensive but not like that! I usually get if for $30 per 16oz bottle.

    Militec-1 in an IDI

Anyone using Militec-1 in their IDIs? I use this stuff extensively in firearms and it is top notch ;Sweet, the company is making some tall claims of improving auto performance by putting it in just about any fuel or lube on a vehicle. If it works as well as it does on weapons, then I think there...

    Discouraging Buying Experience

I had the same title issues when I bought mine. Guy had it for over a year and only applied for temp plates, I bought the truck and attempted to register it. State said I'd have to get him to pay title and registration fee or I'd have to put up the cash for both him and me just to get it into my...

    piston coatings?

Will they nitride a cam sent in that doesn't need grinding? The exact conditions of nitriding is specific to the alloy, so random shops may not be able to do any piece of steel thrown their way. Since the shop you mentioned knows the process, it could be a good resource for someone who wants to...

    Hydroboost noise

I'll be making a run to Green Bay today, think this will work? http://www.fleetfarm.com/mff/detail/apache-hydraulic-oil-return-line-with-clamps/0000000026293

    piston coatings?

Not to hijack, but since we are on the subject of coatings - has anyone done Ferritic nitrocarburized passivation (aka melonite, qpq, nitriding) on engine internals for the 6.9/7.3? They do this to lower end components and I think cams on modern motors, and it is very economical to have done...

    Hydroboost noise

Not a silly question at all, but the answer is no - I ran without a cap when trying to diagnose. Now that the truck is running, I noticed it is only during hard motions like mashing the pedal. If I hold the pedal it clears quickly, so it makes sense in my tiny brain that it is indeed a...

Now I remember why I originally bought my IDI

Sat for 2 years without starting once. Decided to finish fixing it up but wanted to be sure it ran so I charged one of the two batteries up, burned GPs for 5 seconds, didn't even turn over for a full second and it fired up! :hail It gave me a woody, that's not weird is it? :D

    Hydroboost noise

Steering box to pump, sorry. In my case it is actually steering box to cooler to pump. The line suspected to be at fault is after the cooler.

    Hydroboost noise

Is this line sold by the foot or something? Cant be a specific hose, the connections on this particular line are all flared for soft hose and clamps.

    Hydroboost noise

Sorry for the flood of recent threads by me. Getting my 86 back in service after 2 years of distractions. Right before the truck sat, I installed a hydroboost from an 02 F250, including the pump. Works great, however when turning to lock or turning with hard brakes I get a squealing noise and...

Detroit TrueTrac in a 10.25 rear

Cool, thanks. Really want to get a setup that doesn't bark or clunk on pavement all the time but still helps me get up the logging roads.

Detroit TrueTrac in a 10.25 rear

Anyone running a TrueTrac in their Sterling? I'd like to get one, supposedly doesn't effect street performance or towing, and doesn't wear like an LS.

Thanks for the info, I'm guessing when you say heat it up you mean run it? Is this something I want to do with a torch?

    Exhaust manifold removal

I have an 86 F250, she smells stinky when I push hard on the go pedal. Checked under the hood and confirmed a leak somewhere underneath the manifold down to the first flange. How hard is it to remove the pass side exhaust manifold after almost 25 years? Is this going to be a week long...
