I posted a while back in the what did you do with your truck today thread about installing my intercooler.

Also added some gauges to watch my temps. This screen shot was from a video I made pulling some hills right after the install. Figured out I had a small boost leak and fixed it up.

It was 98F as we pulled north over Rattlesnake Pass into Idaho. It was the first big test of the truck and the new IC. The pass slowed us way down, but the IC kept us in the game. No way would we have made it without it. The last bit was 39mph and the temp gauge was almost to the edge of normal. The High Temp light came on as we crested this long pull.

This would be the first of many big passes on our way to Glacier via scenic byways.

After a few days playing around the Snake River area. (Visiting Shoshone Falls, Box Canyon Springs, and Hagerman area) we headed up through Sun Valley and over Galena Pass into the Sawtooth Wilderness.

The dogs love swimming in pristine mountain lakes.

Going over the pass we had the bad fortune to get behind a full cement truck for about 80% of it. He pulled into a pull out and waved us by and we continued the climb in 2nd gear. About 37mph and 3000 rpm, but the temperature gauge never went past the middle. All in all the old IDI did great.

The pass from North Fork Idaho over into Darby Montana was done with an ambient temperature of 97F. This did slow us down on the long curvy climb into Montana. A newer Ford with a lighter 5'er pulled passed us, but we were only a few hundred yards behind him by the time we got the top. My turbo outlet temp hit the highest I ever saw at about 310 degrees!! The engine temperature was happy to stay in the middle and I had to lift throttle to keep the EGTs under 1250.

We made it!

We camped above Darby at Lake Como, which you can see was quite low.

A beautiful place.

One of the biggest surprises about the intercooler addition was how well the truck now pulls from 1700-1900 RPM. The cooler charge must give it some extra oomph. On level and slightly downhill sections 5th gear and 70 mph was easy to do. This truck has 3.55 gears.

Thanks for the updates! Always love to hear how our trucks do in the more extreme situations. For towing, the intercooler is definitely a worrh while upgrade

Awesome awesome awesome! Nearly wore out my "like" button! Do you have an install thread for this intercooler set-up? Any installation photos? Does your engine have head studs?

I do not have head studs yet. Boost peaked at 10.2psi before the IC install. Now runs 8.5-9 max.

I didn't really do an install thread. Just posted some pics on Goose's thread.

I'll try to put something better together when I have time. This was a beta test. I'd like to improve it a little by putting 60 degree boots on and angling it down into the space behind the battery better.

Today's camp:
