Cold air intake

Ok since im getting this hypermax kit I feel like the stock filter housing and filter is gonna restrict it I could be wrong though but I was thinking about building a custom intake because will I don't want the stock housing in there because I don't like how it looks either. How should I go about building a cold air intake. Also my buddy has a factory turbo Idi and wants to build one to how should we do that.thanks yall

Well if you want to go the redneck route pvc pipe some elbows and your good to go. If you want a more professional look
get some aluminum tubing have it bent how you need. Are get a OBS PSD cold air intake and mod it to fit.

Ok I may do that. Would I actually get anybetter performance and more whistle or is it kinda pointless

Well it won't be anything crazy. Remove the Silencer rings in the turbo that'll give ya some whistle.
i removed the AirBox in my Chevy yeah I know but still it's a engine.
I noticed a difference in sound and power wasn't to much but I did notice it.

Do hypermax and ats 093s have silencer rings

in order to have a cold air intake, you would need to feed it air from OUTSIDE the engine compartment....

dont let a grain of rice fool you.

its all about micron rating and flow, a few extensive threads on this subject.
particularly on air filters and whats the best...

dont just slap some ghetto PVC and a K&N and call it cold air,
kinda like putting a rear spoiler on a FWD car.

Trust me I know about k&n an that stuff lol I was gonna do a 6637 Napa filter and it won't be a true cold air intake but something's gotta be better then that airfilter housing the trucks came with

everyone has their own opinion, personally, ive done it incorrect, and look forward to doing it right, with a paper element.
performance? yes it will increase performance by way of not letting particulates into your turbo.
will you feel it? NOPE
you may hear the turbo a bit more, but thats about it.

i do have a true cold air intake, where the air filter is being fed from outside cool air.
but it was quite a bit of work.
the best option for you is the cowl intake mod... tech articles..

Hypermax makes a cowl induction kit. Plumb it in there for cooler air, though factory pulls air from behind the grille. Not sure if that's restrictive, but cowl should be cool if you have a good hood seal (hot as heck if not) and will be a shorter, cleaner, more direct routing for air. Not sure on how much the stock filters flow if that'll be a point of restriction or not. What is the height and diameter? Can't imagine it's much smaller than a factory 460 housing and filter. My 460 truck does just fine with that and gobs more power and torque than my IDI with Banks.

When you're moving, underhood Temps won't really effect IAT. Test have been done. Besides on a turbo engine (let alone intercooler-less) it's seen even less.
So while a "cold air intake" may be good, you won't really see any differences at all. Main thing is just reducing restrictions.

Ok I'll just stay with the stock airfilter housing for now.now totally different question but what down pipe will work on the stock ford 093 my buddy wants to make more power and is looking at a down pipe and bigger exhaust before I go to tweeking his pump anymore

i always just make my own.
there is a 3" DP R&D makes.

most of this stuff its easier to just make.
