Put 2 used glowplugs in yesterday. 23deg, 16sec gp cycle time, 1/2 second of cranking to start, success. Also put some new LED reverse lights on.

:) thank you, my grand father bought it off the lot in 1989 and designed the flatbed to have it built. He passed away earlier last year and I inherited the old girl. She just turned 160k on the clock and drives like a dream.

I used my truck today to tow home a 1996 F250 ECLB 4x4 parts truck. Pics to come tomorrow. Anybody needing any parts let me know.

Pushed a lot of snow tonight with Mater. Loving the 6054 Hid upgraded headlights.

When my sister bought her 1993 Dodge 3/4 Cummins 4x4, I ordered her a pamphlet from ARB for Bull Bars from an ad I saw in the marketplace in a 4 wheel drive magazine and for many nights my sister, Dad and I sat and mulled over the different models she should get. Well, she didn't but I ended up making a similar model for my 73 F100 Highboy which actually was bought by a buddy of mine.

But talk about a tough line of products! At the time if I didn't have such a tough truck with an already massive home made grill guard.

Excuse me for the hijack of this thread but on the subject of "bumper guards" we call them bullbars or roobars down here. Wildlife is a real issue out in remote areas of Australia, so there's a massive market for manufacture of these bars for any make and model we drive out here. For instance, I hit 8 kangaroos (roos) in 12 days, going to work on the same 7 mile stretch of road in the old F150 pictured below !

Wrapping up leaf spring replacement... Should be done, but when I dropped the axle to release some tension on the broken spring pack, I loosened a brake line in the junction block and it started leaking... got a junk yard piece and popped it in. Now it leaks from the end on the pass. rear. Not sure if the bell is cracked or what... Always somethin'...

Put a couple coats of Por-15 on the frame behind the new leaf spring packs, removed rear diff cover, sanded it, painted it, replaced it. Fresh gear oil in diff., new rear window latch from U-Pull-It, new window channel trim to replace old brittle original, cleaned out breather vent on rear brake line junction block.

Started the ol' Big Block today. -6*F, chilly wind, been sitting outside for about a week...

Took about a minute of cranking, no starting aids this time, but it DID start. Any ideas on how to get the thing to start easier? I know it's a big engine, but it's not even a diesel... I can't get much of a decent cranking speed out of it. But it'll warm up in a literal 5 minutes when it is this cold out...

Something's not quite right with that.
Had a 91 w/460 that started right up.
When's the last time you did a tune up?

something is up. i have an 89 460 and even though it has a slow cranking speed it fires off after a month of sitting in 5 seconds.

You may want to look into having your battery tested or get a battery with more CCAs for the cold weather. Also if your fuel pump is loosing prime (not sure if it's mechanical or electric on the gassers) you may have the long cranking times due to the fuel draining back to the tank over night. And like 79jasper said, a tune up could help as well.

Never. It's never EVER had a tune up. EVER. No joke. The spark plugs, SP wires, dizzy, cap, and rotor are the original ones from 1989. 126K on the engine. all sensors are original except a few INSIDE the transmission.

Only thing I've done to it is change fluids, put on a few new emissions components, and did some cooling system work, and changed fluids and filters.

I know, even my Dodge with a carb fires up better.

Just bought a brand new battery last year, it's a 800CCA, and my fuel pump is good, it gets fuel, I can smell it and see it out the exhaust...

On Monday I'll get a cold start video, hows about that, maybe it'll give a clue or two.

Edit: It's EFI and has electric fuel pump
