2 Fuel tank questions.

1. Are there some extended fuel tank options for these trucks that roughly bolts into the factory place or an improved location? If it was a big single tank that would be just fine as long as it is centered between the rails.

2. Has anyone here done fuel sumps on the factory tanks? If I was to do it would I be better off switching to an electric lift pump? If so which one?

bronco graveyard has a 45 gallon rear tank thatll bolt up only downside is you have to move the spare tire. Havnt seen anything for the side tank though.

I would get rid of the side tank for just that 45G one. I never did like it though, it always seemed that if it was full it was unbalancing the vehicle.

I've seen tanks that go in the bed along the sides and around the fender humps.

Its a truck, beyond adding some weight to the rear for winter I could care less about how its distrubted, beyond the 45gal rear far as I know all youve got are in bed options which depending on how much you use your full bed can get you up to 99 gallons additional (max allowed by DOT)

well, you can get around that 99 gal bit with a little gray area. I've got a 150 gal bed tank, but what I used was a 150 gal tank off a big truck that is DOT certified with all its original plates on it and I used the original strap mounts welded and bolted to my bed ( along with a couple of v blocks to keep it from rocking since its not hanging off those straps ) . I can plumb right into the fuel system with that and dont have to do the transfer tank bit

I use my full bed a good bit. So if I ever need to go bigger or replace one I am going with the 45G one.

But about my 2nd question. Has anyone done a fuel sump? Does anyone see a downside to it with these trucks? Diesel Power did it to their Project Armageddon so I figured it would work here and not let air in when it gets low.

I bought a truck recently with a custom built 40 gal rear tank and the front tank hangs down from the frame by almost 6" and holds about 35 gals. I have a suspicion that its from a Super Duty. I will get some pics of it here when it gets light out...

A company called Transfer Flow makes several side tanks for our trucks plus the rear tank option too. they are expensive and they have a great web site too.

transfer flow only offers for 99+ now unfortunatly, was looking at them a while back but then they took it off their site (suspect they might stilll have a couple or can get them still though)

I was wondering about how they did their fuel pick up and return in diesel power mag? Too

I think about doing it to mine, anyone else?

The return came back up top using -AN fittings and braided line. I won't be doing braided line cause it's really expensive and there's a bunch of hard line attached to the frame already. I might run it to the hard line though. But they did the whole thing in braided.
