My dad bought the '89 CC F350 dually from my uncle, who had bought it new. Custom ordered with burgundy exterior and "imploded cow" red interior, ZF5... Anyway, dad got it and it had 24,000 on the ODO, my uncle said it had rolled over three times since he had it, he towed a fifth wheel throughout his retirement years until the clutch became too much for him to deal with.

So that's 324k miles when we got it.

My dad still owns this truck, we put over 100,000 on it. Last I spoke with him the odo is at 30,000, but it doesn't work anymore since the speedometer stopped.

So that's 430k + miles. Nothing's been done to the engine internals. Glowplugs up and died in the late nineties, so it gets "the gas" (ether) as dad calls it... Been through a few clutches, but the original ZF is in there still. DMF died on while on vacation in Wyoming, and we pulled a T19 flywheel out of a junkyard truck and did a clutch job at a campsite near Jackson Hole in 1999.

My dad was driving this thing to and from work every day for years. He quit changing the oil, since it burns about a gallon a month.

When I was a kid dad used to promise me that "big red" would be mine when he got done with it. I fear he won't be done with the pig until we roll him into the retirement home. So I bought my own idi.

:D

My grandpas truck had ~678k miles on it when the odometer quit working in the mid 90's. We drove it another 10 years until we rolled the truck in the winter of 2006. We estimated a conservative average of 25k miles were put on that truck per year during those 10 years, so thats another 250k miles tacked onto that ~678k miles which we've always figured was pretty close to what it had. When it rolled there was over 928k miles on that truck, and it only had the IP serviced once back in the late 80's never had new injectors, had 5 or 6 of the original glow plugs and had never had any major engine work performed on it. It was truly the definition of what an IDI can do if you change oil and service the truck when it should be done.

Canadian maybe.....

I have had two trucks do this, the other was a 97 powerstroke.

Nope, not Canadian. His father bought it brand new in 93 and it has spent its entire life as a construction truck here in southern Utah. It's currently sitting in a field awaiting a heart transplant. An employee ran it without oil somehow.

Yea my dad drove that truck to hell and back. He drove it 16 years, every day, to work as a construction heavy equipment operator. It always had 150 gallons of fuel in the bed along with a tool box that weighed over 500lbs, along with probably another 100-150lbs of oil and coolant for his loader. It was worked every day of its life, which could have had something to do with why it lived so long. These trucks build up allot of carbon if you don't work them. I won't lie, the last 2 or so years, we had to squirt diesel into the intake manifold with a mist bottle to get it started but it always ran great after you got it started. Burned oil in the end and was god awful loud those last couple of years too. I'd imagine with that many miles the bearings and wrist pins were getting lose. Hell it still runs today, but there's no cab or body on the frame, we are restoring a new cab for it. It will continue to live on one of these days.

206K on mine. Apparently I have a lot of miles to put on to break any records. It was well maintained before I ever owned it, and I do my best to take are of it. So, I hope I can stretch a lot of years and miles out of it.

I am about to roll 530 000 kilometers on my old girl....that's about 329000 miles. All service records indicate the engine was never apart, one manifold was installed and your usual parts like an alternator, vaccuum pump, AC compressor were changed. Original E4OD let fo at like 480 000 kilometers? Somewheres around there...that's when she got the ZF.

I change the oil EVERY 5000 kilometers (3000 miles) and once a year the other fluids get drained out, and replaced. Seems to be going well for me...I'd rather change oil than hard parts!

And how about other diesels you fellas have had?

Ive already mentioned my high mileage Ford idi's but I had a Mercedes OE616 240D with 515,000miles on it, and a 85 GMC 6.2l with 570,000km.
And a couple odd ball rigs, like a Chevy LUV, 2.2 izuzu diesel, high mileage, and a Nissan 720 with a SD25, and a nissan sentra diesel, forgot what motor it was...high mileage to of course!! And an 83 Ranger with a 2.2 perkins, through a rod a 720,000km A guy down the road has a 99 stroke with 1.1million km on it. Original injectors lasted up until just recently!!!

And some VW 1.6 idi's. They do well till about 300,000miles and then it seems they meet their fate by running away:eek:. Usually due to worn intermeidiate shaft bearings and worn rings.

So my current 84 F250 has 180,000KM on it and seems like it aint even broken in yet.;Sweet I put on lots of miles but I certainly didn't put all the miles on all those rigs I mentioned. I wheel and deal quite a bit and don't mind picking up diesels with high mileage, as long as its not abusive mileage...AKA teenager mileage:backoff

Well my 93 is running at 193k But the PO ran her hard and never took care of her. Other than a leaking back tank rusting under body IP problems she runs good.:)

That happens with some Women too ....

1992 F250 7.3l

447k miles, just replaced it due to cavitation. It was building compression in the cooling system, repalced the gaskets and it still did it. So, it went in the scrap pile. In case you didn't know, when your odometer hits 400,000 miles on the 92-97 trucks they bounce back down to 300k miles. That being said, the truck could have bounced for 400k more then once, and could have actually been 547k miles, I am not 100% sure, but i know it 400k at least one time under my watch.

That happens to some WOMEN too ....
