Atf is fine except it tints your fuel red. Some of us worry about being checked by DOT for non taxed fuel which has a red tint.:backoff Thats why I changed to the Walmart 2 cycle oil which is blue.

ok so is that stuff 2cycle oil good for the truck?

Walmart TC-W3 two-stroke/two-cycle oil in the gallon-jug mixed one-ounce per gallon of fuel is the best fuel lube you can use, PERIOD.

One must be very careful using ATF in a fuel system; most types of ATF contain abrasive additives to make the transmission operate = not something you want in your injection-pump.

i add half a qt of 2cyl to every tank of fuel...either the walmart brand if i remember to buy it or usually its pennzoil only cause its what the gas stations have on their shelf when i fill up.

it really makes a difference in how the motor sounds...runs much smoother then without

I won't shop at Walmart, so whatever I put in comes from somewhere else. I get Howes Diesel Treat up at the local Valero.

I run Powerservice, normally the grey bottle in a double dosage. But over winter i ran the white bottle.

I like power service in the white bottle because it eats water and provides cetane boost. I use it double dose in the winter when the tank is close to empty before I fill up, but then I don't burn much diesel. I also fill my fuel filter with it straight when I need to change, or at least one per year for good measure. I get my lubricity from canola oil as good as it gets for that. If I was in a super cold climate I would use Howes regularly. I throw some in anyway when it drops to 20F, not too often here.

...I started mixing a MEASURED one-ounce per gallon Walmart brand TC-W3 two-cycle engine oil into the fuel...

2X
2-cycle is made to burn but regular motor oil will work if needed.

I also add a little acetone, 2-3 ounces per 10gal, this is suppose to atomize the fuel better and my truck seems to like it.

The funny thing about that nifty test that site has that points everyone to wallyworld 2 stroke oil and biodiesel , is that is only takes part of the equation into account. All it is worrying about is the lubricant part, PERIOD. which is fine and dandy if that is your one and only concern on your engine, but the problem is, that isn''t the only component in the fuel system, and the *test* fails to take into account the fact that adding two stroke oil will build soot and varnish on injector nozzles, something that will REQUIRE one of the other additives with the solvents in it to take care of cookoo . That;s the problem with narrow scope tests, it is very easy to make the outcome look good for brand x when in the overall, the big picture presents a completely different view.

In the long term, there is a very good reason for the makup of the commercial formulations of diesel fuel additives
As far as lubricity changes in the new uLSD fuel, there really aren't supposed to be any there is some loss of lubricity in the removal process of the sulfur but they are required to replace it with additives before it ever hits the pumps. The new fuel does burn at a different rate and it does have a nasty effect on old seals and eveyrone still on an old pump is going to be replacing it soon as it springs leaks, there's just no way around it

I've run the Howes for many years and it's saved my life more than once ( I've been in well below -80 degf with that stuff and not had trouble, Ive gelled up at one time or another on everything else out there ( and with well over 1.2 million miles pushing big diesels in the past ,I've had plenty of time to play with the things).
Summer time I could use other things, heck, I sell Amsoil, but I just don't prefer their diesel additive, Their cetane booster is some serious great stuff foe smoothing out an engine on real high compression jobs, but I've just not been all that impressed with the regular diesel additive.

I run B20 for almost every fill-up, and SVO between warm-up and cool-down. I run Marvel Mystery Oil in the diesel tanks once every other fill-up. About half a bottle per tank. I also run a bottle of MMO in the oil. All seems to work great.

I've been using the WalMart Super Tech ashless 2-stroke, and Castrol low-ash 2-stroke oil, both at 1:100 (both are TC-W3). I bought the Castrol because it was on sale just to compare the two.
EDIT: the castrol is actually their "super 2-stroke motor oil", normally recommended at 1:50, and it says "non-NMMA type lubricant". I haven't got the foggiest what that means.

That note about varnish and soot buildup got me thinking, though, although especially the ashless type is supposed to minimize that. Would that be evident on the glow plugs too? I mean, the injector shoots right at the plug, doesn't it? I just replaced my glowplugs, and the old ones certainly had some soot and carbon on them, are they supposed to be squaky clean?

I measure in about .5 a gallon of B99 with each fill up.

My worn out IP and injectors have developed a habbit for it tho... :sly
