hello everyone, i’m currently 12 hours from home and my truck has started making a chuffing/ticking noise. i’ve heard that that can be valves/lifters, and i’m wondering how bad it’d be for me to drive back. noise is consistent with rpm. oil is full, and changed 1000 miles ago.

Files are saying need access... Are you able to put on youtube?

You say the sound is consistent with rpm, does the speed of the sound change with engine speed?

I have had my CDR get stuck and it caused a fuel knock, cleaning it out helped. It was mostly the pinhole breather vent for the diaphragm was plugged.

I can definitely hear the chuffing you're referring to, sounds like passenger bank. You have clear exhaust at idle though, maybe you developed an exhaust leak at the manifold? If your exhaust remains clear through all rpm ranges and under a load, I'd drive it home. I would be concerned if you had exhaust smoke on a stock engine

I sure wish these engines would be quiet sometimes so you can hear any problems!

Roll with it!

Did you put your hearing aid back in?
Sometimes I hate my tinnitus.

If it is the exhaust manifold, hope it's the pass side. I just had to replace mine. I looked and looked, no one has the driver's side in stock.

I used these to get the manifold bolts out. https://www.amazon.com/Extractor-Stripped-Remover-Rounded-Damaged/dp/B0DFTXTGSR?gQT=1

Got them all out with those, except I found out do not use a impact with them. They would not work with a impact, but if I pressed in and gently turned them with a ratchet, they would bite and take the bolt right out.
