Worked on the 86 today to change out the other L/R Wheel Cylinder.
Did the other side about a month N half back, it was starting to weep a bit, caught it just in time before it got onto the Brake Shoes.
Noticed some oil on the rubber splash shield front and rear of the tire. Edge of the backing plate was a bit damp and throwing the Brake Fluid.

Suddenly had the L/R lock up pulling up to a Red light.

Bought new Brake Shoes, Spring Kit and 2 Wheel Cylinders.
Tore into it and just needed to replace the weeping Wheel Cylinder.
Pulled the Hub, replaced the Oil Seal and washed the bearings to check them out.

So today was to do the other side, weather has been good, every one across the country has been Froze out, Flooded and Burned to the ground, etc... and here in Nevada the Hight pressure off the Ca. coast moves stuff away from us. Have had a couple snow flurries but gone next day or so. Even looking up toward Lake Tahoe from here the snow is melting and disappearing.
Going to be a dry year if something doesn`t happen soon.
Not complaining, but it is Jan 13. Been in the high 30`s, 40` and 50`s, nights teens and low 20`s.
10:30 starts to get warm enough to work out side till 3:30, and by 4pm better be heading for the house. When the sun drops behind the mountains on the Ca. side, temp drops 10 deg. and my ears are ready to freeze off....
Got the R/R side taken apart. Removed the Axle and the Hub, and blew out the Brake Dust with Brake Cleaner. Took the curved lever for the parking and related assembly apart, and wire wheeled all the rust and crud off. Then sprayed painted it black.
This left Axle shaft looked like maybe it was replaced at some time in it`s prior life before I came along. Has yellow paint ID maybe from a Junk Yard? Shaft looked kind of rusty, compared to the other Axle which looked new.
The Seal on the Hub was like it was welded on. other side popped out with a HF Tire Iron. After a lot of screwin around with it, (didn`t want to) finally with a 3/4" Socket Extension beat the snot out of it beating on the bearing and it came out. Think it had JB Weld for the sealant around the edge as tight as it was in there.
(Didn`t though).
Washed up the bearings in a container of Wax & Grease remover.
Washing them, Iam looking for any sparkles of metal showing time to replace them.
This stiff from O`Reallys, cheapest Klean-Strip anywhere. $31.
saw one site for over $200 for a gallon.
Ordered it on line Mon afternoon and picked it up next morning at their store.
I cut the bottom off 1 gal oil bottles, maybe 4-5", and use them the wash parts etc... or cut out the side of 1 gal Oil/Coolant bottle
for a wash pan.
The Bearings are soaking in a pan of Gear Oil for now.
On the back side of the Axle it has a rubber "O" Ring for the seal.
Now from all my searching, looks like they first used it in the 85 year trucks. Went to the dealer for a couple to have on hand just incase. Looks like Discontinued.
Did a lot of searching and NAPA, Dorman etc... has them.
One search says they use them all the way to 2024. Another says it fits my 86, Taska auto parts says no. Lot of conflicting info. This site shows the "O" Ring for 1985 to 2023

Here is a Ratchet Nut that hold the bearings tight at the end of the Hub. interesting thing. Ordered 2 from the dealer, so I had the correct part and part#. Bought them to just have on hand
8C3Z-1A124-A and 8C3Z-1A125-A. one is right and other left hand thread.
I bought the Oil Seal from a Timken TMK 11S3437OT.
It comes with cupped metal piece to drive in the seal. Never
seen that before. Bought it from Russ repair.

Tomorrow the ladies from the Church are having their monthly
lunch/Bible study, and some of the husbands come along and we have our own table while they have their w ennie roast...
And we talk about the gooder stuff.
Get back in time will finish up on the truck.
I did notice a fuel leak from the rear tank, frail rail and part of the tank was wet as the fill Pipe/Hose. Turn out, the fill Cap is leaking. I replaced the rubber seal a while back, but the center of the cap seems to have a Vent Hole (?) and top of cap is soaked. There is always something.

A few weeks back I was in Carson City, came up to a red light and the L/R tired skidded to a stop. never done that before. next block down did it again. So knew something was up with the rear Brakes to suddenly do that. Couple days ago noticed that on the rubber splash shield, the rubber flap...
