I'm thinking about trying Restore after seeing this Project Farm video(Part 2, one year later)
Restore compression test 1 year later

Any other suggestions? Since the GP hole is so easy to get to I'll test it again a few times and see how she does.

It’s unlikely that you have one cylinder that’s got varnished rings, but it’s not impossible. I recommend AutoRX as one of the only fix in a bottle I’ve ever used with excellent results every time. It’s hard to find, but worth it for applications where you need a slow but effective cleaning agent (IDI that hasn’t been worked hard as an example).

I know you don’t want to pull a head but if you figure out it’s truly valve related it’s not the worst job in the world.

I've tried the Kano Labs stuff and it seemed to smooth out the engine a little but overall I didn't see much difference. However without before and after compression tests or dyno work there's not much else to say about it. Didn't change my MPG's noticeably, either.

Which lead me to believe I didn't have varnish or gumming or soot build-up. I run the engine pretty good with the 70mph speed limit here and all the hills, plus it's fun to do WOT freeway onramps and stuff, so she works and gets hot.

I finally added Engine Restore to my oil today! All I did was drive 10 mins to get fuel, 3 mins to the grocery store, and 8 mins home. But in just that time the idle smoothed out noticeably! I'm pretty amazed with that. LET'S GOOOOOOO
I'll do a compression test some other time, for now I'ma just DD it and see how she purrs.

I wonder if you had a stuck piston ring.
With any new to me engine, regardless if its diesel or gasoline, I always run a half to full can of seafoam in the oil, then drive the bananas out of it for the first 100 miles, and change the oil. Always comes out chunky, but they always run way better after.
I havent heard of Engine Restore, but it looks like just another brand of cleaner solvent for helping engines out.

I've used Restore in the past with good results. You have to add it every time the oil is changed for it to continue working but not the worst price to pay. Might be a good time to start sourcing another good engine for a future swap if you're worried about your current engines potential future.
