About a month ago my F350 7.3 power stroke absolutely quit right in the middle of driving is if you shut the key of the vehicle off. I had it towed to a shop they replaced the fuel filter and it appeared to be running good. Once I picked it up I drove it for 15 to 20 minutes and once again ran perfectly fine and all the sun shut off immediately and then wouldn’t start. Once we had it towed and that it had cooled down it started right up. But if you let it sit there and run for about 15 to 20 minutes it shuts off. So they replaced the cam sensor directly from Ford and it did the same thing it didn’t fix anything with that. Next they replaced the I believe it’s the high-pressure oil sensor up on top at the fuel rail and last night it idled for about an hour which it had never done that before so we thought that it was fixed. The mechanic from the shop decided to take it home just to see and 10 minutes into his drive it died once again. They’re saying that basically with the 7.3 power stroke it’s usually one of three things we tried the least expensive routes. The cam sensor. The high-pressure oil switch. They’re saying that we should replace the HPOP. Has anyone else had any experience with anything like this? If so if you got it fixed how was it that you got it fixed.

Open the fuel filter can and check if there’s bubbly or foaming looking fuel. I’m thinking it’s a clog in the fuel line.. same thing was happening to me and I dropped the tank and cleaned out little plastic pieces (some of them get sucked up but they’re too big to pull threw so then they’ll fall out and get sucked up again), blew out the lines and replaced the sock/ and pickup filters. All good after that for me. It’s cheep too but takes some time.

Could be IPR solenoid getting hot and quitting.

Could be o-rings leaking when "hot"

Can you monitor the truck and log what's going on when it stalls out ?

Thank you. I’ve passed the suggestions on to my mechanic. I guess every vehicle can be different but I just don’t feel that it would be the rings myself just for the fact that it is not hard starting at all and it doesn’t sputter it doesn’t give you a hint that it’s going to quit it’s as if someone just turn the key right off and then after that it doesn’t even sputter all it does is crank

Do you have a chip plugged into the computer? If so that could cause problems. I has a similar problem on mine except it would start back up. Pulled the chip runs fine now .

+1 on what greenskeeper is suggesting. You really need to have Forscan or Autoenginuity plugged in and monitoring when it stops to see what's happening when it shuts off.

I will also tell you that I had something very similar happening on my 95 PSD and it turned out to be the ignition switch. Not the keyswitch: the actual ignition switch down near the bottom of the steering column. It's cheap and not all that hard to swap, so since you're throwing parts at it, you could think about replacing it.

Good luck: the intermittent electrical stuff always seems to be the hardest to solve.

Check engine oil level. Keep it full. Low oil level does that also, won't hurt the motor, just your head hurts when you finally figure it out.

From the original post: the first thing they changed was the CPS

Sorry didn't see the CPS was changed right away. But it could have been a bad one. Wasn't uncommon back in the day.

The items that they have a replaced are. They put a new fuel filter in. The camp position sensor was replaced with an aftermarket one and also an OEM one from Ford. The fuel rail oil pressure switch has also been replaced. I just gave my mechanic the IPR replace next. And we do have the tuner disconnected. Oil level is exactly where it should be

2003- have you had it it’s whole life? Do you know if the fuel pickup has ever been replaced or repaired? If so how long ago? There are little pieces of plastic on the fuel pickup that deteriorate over time and it’s a super common problem to have little pieces of plastic clog the pickup.
