So apparently my tps or fipl was out of range measuring at .8v at idle. I thought I was just too dam light on my peddle. I have been getting wierd shifts and replaced all the corresponding components. Vss, tach sensor on the IP gear cover. cleaned out all the connections and added silicone grease. when I changed my fipl, it measured at .8v at idle.
This is a van chassis mind you. not a lot of space for my milkshakes. if I have to adjust the fipl manually, Id have to take off the fuel filter and squeeze a flex wrench in there with that torx screw.
I had a bright idea of just bypassing the fipl and adding my own potentiometer. I did some poking around and nobody in this forum have done it. I did find something in the cummins forum. apparently their tps cost $300+ and they already have this mod called tps delete. they paired it up with the TC unlock mod for passing gear.
My mod ( that im planning to do this weekend) is to pair the fipl with another 10k potentiometer. so basically im running the fipl and potentiometer in parallel except the last leg on the potentiometer and the ground of the fipl. My goal is to have an adjustable fipl from my dash with a volt meter. I did some maths and 10k potentiometer will be my best bet to have "mountain shifts" or "la traffic shifts". also fine tune it to 1.5v at idle and 4.5 at max throttle. its cheaper than a e40d trans controller (20 bucks) and i dont have to squeeze in the tight space under the hood. i save that for my girlfriend.
any thoughts? I want to get yall's opinion on this. anything I should consider? I have pigtailed a 2 pin watersealed connector to it and just have to plug in the potentiometer and a volt meter.
