It continued to run, even after you unplugged both batteries? And stopped when you pulled the wire off the IP solenoid??? What do you have in your truck that has it's own battery? Do you have something like a jump box, plugged into the cigarette lighter? Something has it's own power and is backfeeding.

It's not impossible for the engine to keep running after you disconnect both batteries. Although usually, it will go into runaway mode.

But to keep running with both batteries disconnected... And then to die if you unplug the fuel solenoid... That HAS to be the fuel solenoid getting power from somewhere besides your batteries.

An IDI will continue to run with the batteries disconnected ,as long as the Alternator in working. My 88 would do that. The rod in the column broke, and I had a switch to control the pump (basically just broke the hot wire to the pump). If that switch was closed, and the batteries disconnected, it would continue to run just off the alternator.

Good point!

He had also unplugged the regulator. And I started to state that that meant the alternator was taken out of the equation. Then realized that is not strictly true.

Ok. Could have been running off the alternator. :D

Dangit! I thought we had the first case of a spectral battery or something!

Instead, I'll bet I don't even get a cookie for my sleuthism...

Lol. No jump box or any new tricks like that. Going to check the go solenoid and controle module since that's the last electrical thing I messed with. Although I did this a week or so ago with no issue, just maybe I crossed a wire. No harm checking. But seriously starting to lean towards that ignition switch adjusting/replacing. The whole under hood wiring was just redone last year and new casing put over the harness. That and as I looked through it all earlier it still looked really good. Going to check switch and tinker with that after work tomorrow.

Stranded at work, and now found a wire beside my passenger side battery that glows as soon as I put the battery cables on the battery that will stay glowing untill the glow plug cycle finishes. Could crossing a wire to my new gp controller and relay have caused all this?

Take all the terminals off the always hot side of the starter relay on the fender, run a single wire to the up from the battery hot, and jump the relay with a short wire or some pliers to engage the starter and it will get you on the road. It could be the gp controller shorted on and has melted the harness/harness connector

Would one of your manual gp harnesses bypass all this?

No! Hood insulation is a fire retardant btw

This truck hasn't had insulation since I bought it. But lucky for me fire extinguishers are on hand at all times were I work.
Bad ground?
I'm not 100% sure, but I will assume so. Well it's not so bad. Got it home under it's own power but gots lots of re wiring to do.

Hooray! (said sarcasticly) the perfect excuse to install one of Wes's glow plug harnesses (still sarcastic). :(
Really wanna do that anyways. Now it's more of a need. Tired of these gp issues I've been having anyways. Now it's just not optional
