Prefill torque converter?

Hi Gang!
We're about to install the new tranny. We're both thinking that we need to prefill the torque converter. Mandatory to pre fill?

Don't know about being mandatory , but putting a quart or two in is a good ideal , kind of like putting oil in a oil filter before putting in on. Put some in and roll it around to get oil into things , I just would not put so much in that it starts running back out is all.

I always add a few quarts to a converter and then will start the truck run through the gears and check fluid in trans top off and repeat till it stops dropping usually takes a little while

That's what we did, put a quart in and moved it around a bit.

Adding fluid is not necessary. The pump will do this for you.

That's what I was thinking. However, there were conflicting reports on the internet.. big surprise! So we went ahead and through a quart in before assembly. Thanks for your reply brother!

One quart won't hurt but filling it up 100% will make for a spill when you try to install. It's also heavy enough to handle without adding more weight.

Yeah I knew not to FILL it but didn't want to ruin it either, I knew adding a qt couldn't hurt but I really didn't know what the "right way" was. He left here about 30min ago and it was running great.
