I gotta share this with ya'll... For the record.....All I can say is UNBELIEVABLE!

Here is the low down.....

I checked everywhere. All the BIGBOX stores first. All were about $150 and UP plus a core deposit up front of a minimum of $101.00 and UP for a gear reduction 1994 7.3 IDI cargo van starter.

Then, I went online and looked at other retailers, same deal. Avg. $140-$275.00 for the GR Starter, plus, a CORE charge, up front.

Then I found this unheard of before company on the net, called DB Electrical. So, I did some research, asked, many questions, asked others on forums about anyone using them or having any good or bad experiences with them. Not one bad response or review that I could find. A few others used them for ATV's, Gassers, one other Diesel truck, still no bad press, so far so good.

Like some other "grey-beards" on here, my dollars are tight and once gone, don't easily come back into my wallet, so, I won't give up a red cent more than I have to unless I'm dealing with a great company, with great customer service, a great price and no B.S.

So, I pulled the trigger and placed an order with DB ELECTRICAL for a Gear Reduction Starter at 11:30 am yesterday, Tuesday Febuary 12th, 2019.

The P/N was SND0027 - Gear Reduction Starter for 88-94 Ford IDI (not OEM) for under a BENJAMIN-yep, $96 shipped (it also included a 1 year, no questions warranty). And, I got a receipt via e-mail a couple hours later. Ok, so far, so good. Then, later on last night, I was worried that I didn't receive any tracking info with the e-mailed invoice, because I read on their website, they said any order placed before 2PM went out for shipping the SAME day. So, at 5:30 am, with no tracking info yet, I sent a follow up e-mail. I checked my e-mail at 5:40am, 10 mins. after asking, and there it was, tracking info via UPS. I clicked on the link and it was stating that the STARTER was, unbelievably, already OUT FOR DELIVERY, today, yup!?! Thought it was a mistake, snafu, what???

But, 24hrs. later! At 11:30AM, it was delivered. WOW!

And, the kicker, FREE SHIPPING, YEP, believe it, on a BRAND NEW Gear Reduction Starter with NO CORE charge! And the fastest shipping Ive ever experienced! If the starter is as good as the timely, superman UPS shipping then my new starter may last a very long time.

Blew me away as all I can say. Take this with a grain of salt, but, amazing to me from Tennessee to just above Tallahassee, FL in lower South Georgia in world record shipping time.

And, no, for the record, I don't know, nor am I affiliated in ANY way with the company below (but, if anybody at DB Electrical reads this or gets ANY business from this post, do me a favor and cut the guys at Diesel Stop and Oil Burners a great deal too, and send me a T-Shirt, lol)

Hope this info helps others here, and hopefully, others have the same great shipping and customer service experience I had.

YMMV

They are far from unknown, DB Electrical is very well know on this forum. Still great to hear feedback like that though.

@snicklas could we get this moved to the hall of fame? Or @8gitmusik1 you can copy your post into the hall of fame to make a permanent good review for them. Would help them out in the long run, glad you had such good experience with them

I asked others in another post about their opinions about DBElectrical on oilburners but only got a few replies. You mention, they (db electrical) are "far from unknown on this forum", where are the written comments or reviews of this company or its products on oilburners or dieselstop or anywhere else. I couldn't find a whole lot of experiences and reviews on them so, with the limited info that I was able to locate I took the chance anyway. I would love to read more from others experiences, hopefully good but if their is any negative use or customer service or returns, I want to document that to, hopefully here in the HALL OF FAME to give my fellow readers here on OILBURNERS the good, the bad and hopefully not, but even the ugly truth if there is any. And, for the record, UPS, UNITED PARCEL SERVICE gets a BAD rap and reputation for throwing around packages and damaging items during shipment, but, this starter was DOUBLE BOXED (thumbs up, DB electrical) and came to me IN PERFECT CONDITION. Even the exterior box looked PERFECT. I'm still amazed at the whole experience, actually. 2 THUMBS UP all the way.

I ordered mine via Amazon Prime from DB about a year ago. So far so good.
Awesome to hear from your experience and use of this company and "use in the field" Keep us posted as you keep using your DBE starter. Hope it gives you years of faithful service and "ZERO" problems. And, tell us all if/when it eventually fails to perform, how long it lasted, etc.

By the way, what was YOUR application (truck, model, year, engine, gear reduction or standard)?

I'll check and see if the post has been copied, if not, I'll place a copy of the first post over.

I've also used DB. Not for my IDI's, but on my other vehicles. I was happy with the service I got from them. I placed the order on Friday morning and they would arrive on Tuesday (not bad with a weekend in the way). They worked well (alternators for my P-71's, and a couple of other things). I would definitely use them again, no doubt.

Here is a similar (below) to the Gear Reduction Starter to what I received from DB Electrical for only $96.00. The one in the link below is almost 3X more? Why do some companies charge so much more for these when they are so similar?

This starter is a gear reduction but is $380.00!
Note-Reason for edit: the link below says water pump gasket but is actually for the starter (weird mistype by their tech/web builder) Anyway-

Just like so many parts that look similar there can be quite a difference in the build process. The Mean Green is a 4.4-1 ratio, all bearing, not bushings, Things like windings , material that parts are made from all add up to higher cost. 300000 mile expected life. 2 yr warranty.

Now I am not say that the DB one are bad or anything, but don't think they are apples to apples.
I was at a diesel shop that I go for information while back , and was talking about starters , I had a bad Napa one, not good ones. Anyhow he had one he sales for around 400, but said it would be the last starter I would put on.

About like buying a Chevy and a Caddy you get what you pay for. Does not mean the lower cost one is junk. just a different quality.

I'm tracking with you, Randy. I'm going to find the actual specs on the starter from DB to compare, just curious, as I hadn't done that before posting the link to the "MEAN GREEN"
