Steel wool or green scotch Brite pad Id use the scotch Brite because it is not steel and yony remove anything from the cylinder walls and then give a good coat of brake fluid or WD-40
My nail doesn’t catch, I just barely can feel where it’s not totally smooth like the rest of the cylinderThis is why I recommend always pulling the engine to do studs, you run into an issue like this then you end up pulling the engine anyways. That cylinder looks like it’s pitted pretty bad from the picture but not being able to feel it it’s tough to say on my end. Run your finger nails across the pitting and see if your nail catch on anything. If they do, I’d pull the engine for a proper hone and rering.
Roger thatThen it’s your call, you can either clean it up as best you can and put it back together or pull the engine and tear into it further
Oh the fun never ends. I had every thing set, clean and ready to put cylinder heads on. Like a ******* I tried this myself. Damaged the gasket and broke this...

Can anyone tell me what this is, do I need it and if so, where to get one? It was on the back of drivers side cylinder head.
