Guy claims it had 240k on it when he pulled it and was running good. Days he go the truck for a tranny swap. He’s a couple hours away from me so if I make the drive I better come home with it.

To much in my book for a motor with 240keven if if he says it runs iv got a few motors that supposedly ran when pulled but a few months sitting didn't do them any favors one turned to be an expensive boat anchor

Do you need an engine too or just want the turbo?

My advice is to assume any turbo is going to need rebuilding. (Maybe it doesn't, but you need to know what you're doing and see/feel it yourself to be sure.)
If it does need rebuilding, you're looking at $600 on top of what you just paid for a clapped-out turbo. (This happened to me).
And once you've paid that much, you could have had one ready to go from @typ4 in the first place with NOS exhaust castings and everything.

All that aside if you need the engine too I'd say that's a tall price, unless the turbo was rebuilt recently. Looks like you're in WA, we have pretty tough pricing compared to other areas.

More then I would pay with out knowing a lot of history, Even then I could rebuild mine around that price, I am able to do the work myself. Couple of years ago paid 600. for one they didn't know a thing about it so bought it as a core. Bought it home checked out and put it in the truck , was a good engine.

I buy up unknown condition idit engines for cores all the time, complete running engine I’d pay 500-900 and 350-500 for unknown condition complete engines

Wow all the time? It’s hard enough to find anything idi where I’m at. I’m just look for a idit set up to maybe build For when my na claps out. I messaged him to see what he thought about $500 let you know if I here back from him

Yeah all the time, I’ve got four waiting to be built at the moment, I use search tempest to find diesels for cheap between the 93-94 range, I’m able to pick up some good deals that way, and most local diesel guys know I work on these IDIs so I get calls with offers which helps.

Yeah, way more than I’d pay. If it was a GOOD engine and GOOD turbo I think 1000$ would be my cap but not an ideal price to pay

I don't know if it's a fair comparison... When I purchased my IDIT, the oil cooler was resealed and return lines redone and every nut and bolt including downpipe I gave 1k.I did get to hear it run, and received starter and everything.

I think I would rather have a converted IDI.. no parts issues.

bought my 1994 IDIT for $750, had broken vac pump and cracked exhaust manifold but cylinders were in good condition...runs fine, leaks just about as much oil as any other old diesel.

Something to note, I prefer the 94 idit over the 93s. The open style tensioner is the plague of the 93s, but 94 got the updated tensioner and no more belt squeak issues. Because of that and some other small changes, I value the 94s a bit more than the 93s so I’m willing to pay more for a 94.
