I bought this old F800 with no engine in it. I bought another F800 with a good engine. Pulled the engine and junked the truck. The engine sat on the ground for 6 months, finally got time to put it in my truck. It starts but runs like crap. Spitting and sputtering. I know the Motorcraft Holley's weren't known to be the best and especially after 6-8 years of sitting, what are the possibilities of this carb being any good. Some other forums said to take the Holley off, throw it away and put a Edelbrock 1405 on it. Any suggestions??

Agreed, I hate the eddys and carters. You should be able to get a good rebuild kit for what you have or just drop a reman on and forget about it. There’s hardly a chance that carb is good if it’s been sitting six months with modern fuel in it. Most likely needs a good cleaning and rebuild.

been sitting 6 years....I've had it 6 months. I was amazed that the old thing fired up. I did put a new brain box and pick up in it. New plugs , wires and cap also. She just runs like crap. Poppin and spittin. I already bought the new Edelbrock. I'm gonna give it a shot and see how she does. I talked to several people who have done this to their 429's and the swear by it. They say power and fuel mileage increased. I report back with my findings. The one thing that looks weird to me is the shape of the carb. The Holley is skinny and Long from front to back. The Edelbrock is wide , side to side. I don't even know if it's going to mount up,

That’s just a design difference, the Eddy’s are designed after the old Carter’s which has the top plate that covers all your service items. The Holley has the two side covers that can be removed. Just makes for different dimensions, should bolt up fine

Motorcraft Holley's Any suggestions??

My 84 E350, 460 came with a Holly that had four idle jets. I got rid of it rather quick.

For a couple decades I have been running Q Jets on a 351W, 351C and a 460. They have served me very well.

Some Ford 429/460 had Q Jet/Thermoquad spread bore manifolds. I used aftermarket manifolds for the 351s. I use Q Jets from mid seventies Cadillac. That Q Jet is the only carb that I have ever encountered in the wild with mechanical altitude compensation.
