Well, when you consider unlockable hubs used to be an option on 4wd vehicles and they also didn't used to have these newfangled transfer cases thatslop around ( I don't know if these trucks have that type or not, but still) you didn't have the transfer case in 4x4 so basically you were running around with an unhooked front open diff, no big deal.
