hey i have questions here.... what is this thing between the injector and line?

and i have a 87 with a not stock? water-fuel separator? my red 87 had the original one. could not see a part number on the filter. will pull if needed.

i would but it is not needed unless you are timing your engine. you can always get a line from a van for that cyl as the van had that fitting on #4 cyl IIRC.

The above posting is true. That fitting on the number 1 injecter line is only used when your using the old Rotunda timing meters. We don't really have a need for that fitting but do not remove it and force the line to fit the injecter. It will throw off that injecter timing and if you time by the pulse method it will throw off the engine timing to all cylinders because that line is now shorter. All the injecter lines are the same length even if they look differant. Using the number 4 cylinder works great and sometimes its better timing off that cylinder... I have had to time off that cylinder when I was not getting a good pulse off the number one line...

Interesting what ever type that is.....I do however find the condition of it rather alarming....filthy and all that...

A good wash for 2-5 bucks at a car wash with some degreaser is a very wise investment IMHO....

yyyeeaahhh... thats from a parts truck thats sat for 8 years. i will remove it and see what the deal is.. it doesnt leak. i got the truck to run. feels a little slow with 3.55 c6 old fuel but it doesnt smoke a bit and is hitting on all 8. may only have 98k on it

The filter setup is a stock Mitsubishi diesel filter. I bought several fuel filter setups identical to that about a decade ago from a auction for a defunct high-end zero turn mower builder. They were using these filters on 4 cylinder Mitsubishi turbo diesels ~75hp.. When I got mine, the filters where Mitsubishi brand and IIRC there was a Mitsubishi sticker or paper tag on the mount. I have seen some that have a pump in the top instead of just the round cap. I don't know the flow capabilities, but I have been using on on my JD 4.5l powered air compressor for several years as a prefilter to the engine mounted filter.

Evidently these have been used on, or at least swapped onto other smaller diesels.

that same filter is being used on everything from jd equipment to cat rollers and equipment, there are several different filters for them from a 4 inch tall one to an 8 inch with water drain and some are separators and some are fine micron secondary filters. I dont like them for heavy equipment use but I would put one on a truck if it had the hand primer built into the top, and it screws right on. in place of the cap.
