When Did Ford Install a Cummins???

This VIN 2ftjw35c4pcb16442 indicates it had a 5.9 Cummins installed from the factory. But it is a 7.3 IDI turbo diesel.

Any comments??

i might be wrong but in f250-450s i dont think they did but you could spec a f550/650 with a cat or cummins.

The IDI is either M or K. You have a one ton dually crew cab? made in canada. That engine may have been a gas engine. It's not a diesel, and the cummins was never available in a light ford truck.

I looked the vin up in a Service Manual and the C after the 35 indicates a 5.9 , 359CI, I6 Cummins. It is listed that way.

I believe for special order you could get the Cummins in the F series. Now the cost???????

In the late 80's-early 90's I actually saw a couple of F-350 with B-series Cummins in them. I was told they came that way from Ford; but, it is also possible that they were new trucks that had been through one of the custom truck builders before being offered at the dealership.

This used to be a common practice back when dealer-available goodies were somewhat limited. You could buy a brand-new truck or van that had been really tricked out at a custom shop right at the dealership, finance it and the whole works right on the spot.

well, the VIN decoder i have fron LMC doesn't show 'C', & it also doesn't cover 350s or CCs... possibly something i don't know, but i'd think something's amiss.

where'd that VIN come from? title? vehicle?

My Father-In-Law owns his own mechaincs shop and has a friend that has a couple of F super duty tow trucks that he ordered in the early 90's with a Cummins in them and one that is a 2000 F450 tow truck with a cummins in it. So it was an option somehow.

those were conversion jobs. Not factory ford. I've done a few of them back in the early 90's for my uncle's towing company.

The info I have comes from "Ford Technical Service Information Electronic Publication" CD for 93-94. For '94 F-series, "C" was for Cummins engine, "M" was for 7.3 NA, "K" was for IDI Turbo and "F" was for PSD

After further investigation, the VIN 2ftjw35c4pcb16442 is for a 93. The 93 VIN Engine Table shows the "C" as 7.3 turbo (?).

I do believe the Cummins was available in factory F series trucks in Austrailia, but not here.

Okay so now I just need a bunch of cash to buy a Cummins. oh wait I won't have that anytime soon so I'll stick to the IDI.
