what kinda mods can be done

ive got a 91 f-250 4x4 with a 7.3 lt love it goes great what can i do to make it faster .I cant seem to find much stuff for these trucks , they are all for the 7.3 lt td s .Anybody have anything or ideas heard some ppl put on a banks turbo on this site any web site i can find that on thanks jeff

A turbo will give you the biggest improvement. Bank, ATS, or Hypermax are the major supliers of turbos for the 6.9, 7.3 IDI's. Propane is also an option. A pyro (exhaust gas temp guage is mandatory before you start adding hp to these engines. Russ

As said a turbo will give you the best improvement. But if you just want a few less $$ put on a good exhaust at least dualls 2 1/4. Modify your air intake to get more cool air (from the grill). Put in guages, pyro, water temp, oil press and if auto trans temp.

What they said The turbocharger will really wake this engine up.

But, also as mentioned, get a pyrometer gauge installed!! Getting the exhaust gas temperature too high is a sure-fire way to kill any diesel engine, and messing with the fuel greatly enhances the chances of this happening.

If $$ is an issue, as mentioned, freeing up the exhaust and the intake will make the engine happy. Diesels are happiest with no backpressure whatsoever, so if legalities allow it, make the muffler disappear A ram-air setup (something like this, for example) would also be beneficial. Changes to the exhaust and intake don't require a pyro to be added (although I for one would recommend it on even a bone-stock truck, just to be safe), since you aren't asking the engine to work any harder...

3" straight exhaust with a muffler (straight thru best, flowmaster worked best for me)
Fresh air intake (your choice of a buttload of options)
Pyro
Turn up the IP 4-6 flats
Bump the timing up about 1-1 1/2 degrees
Reset the retard lever to come in a little later
Bump the Governor up just a hair
Propane, water injection or both
Turbo

That would be to me, the best order to go in. However, as stated before, and I know what I have said in the past, but GET A PYRO BEFORE SCREWING WITH THE FUEL OR TIMING!!!! Heat can kill these IDI's in a heartbeat if it gets too hot too fast and for too long.
