So i got a pump from ford and a new t-stat and am waiting for my fan clutch wrench in the mail.:tool We keep getting new smilies i love it. anyway what sealant should i use for the water pump bolts? do i use it on all the bolts or just the top 2? do i use anything on the gasket or leave it dry? any other tricks i should know besides getting the surface squeeky clean? I also read on here about using locktite on the fan clutch. good idea? Thanks in advance

The top two plus the bottom two need sealant. Use a really thin film of rtv on the gasket to case and glue the gasket to the pump with 3M weatherstrip cement.. The yellow kind. Then it will never leak or come off the pump. Use a drop of loctite blue on the pump to fan clutch threads and remember they are left hand threads.

The last Ford waterpump I bought had a "print-o-gasket" enclosed. That type does not need any additional smooge on the gasket itself. As was mentioned, I would put some RTV on the bolts. Virtually any color will do. I use the blue stuff. Just be sure to get the mounting surface good and clean, and wipe it off with laquer thinner just before you install the new pump.
