Hello all, I decided to retire and now have time to work on my truck. Just wish I had more money to put into it! Decided to replace my weeping water pump. New pump came with Allen bolts plugs and I can not get the thing out. I have started to round it after resorting to a sledge. Any ideas on how to get this thing out? Otherwise I will have to go without a heater and I would prefer not to go that route.

I would take it back and have them give you one that you can get the bolts out of. Then I’d use the correct size driver on an impact wrench.

It did start out the correct Allen size, the plug metal gave before it would loosen. I purchased it months ago on line. Might have to drill it out I guess.

I borrowed the neighbors impact wrench and hammered a slightly larger bit in. That did the trick. I have been reading the forum for a few years now, thank you everyone for all the great information. I did a search prior to starting the repair. 25 ft pounds on bolts. Aviation permitex. Put goop on the 2 upper and lower bolts. Until my next self inflicted problem.

Heat the plug until it is red with a torch then take a blow gun and blow in the center of the plug for 30 seconds. The plug will cool faster the the water pump housing and usually the plug will screw right out without any issues.

Just had this problem the other week, had to heat it up as much as map gas could do, and I still almost stripped the hex
