Wow. I learned something tonite. So I'm guessing the 7.3 IDI was an improvement on the 6.9 short commings like the head bolts and precups design. I wonder what would have happened if the designers had installed 9/16th inch head studs in the 6.9 from the get go....

Nice... man, all that testing and they still missed that block cracking problem on the early 6.9's.

I read that article several times when it came out. Excellent information. That's the type of info I was looking for when I wrote the IDI history article. I sent emails to Navistar looking for information. All I got was dumb looks and no effort for help. Guess you have to be a magazine writer to get someone to put forth any effort.
