that only took me a couple of minutes, with the help of some vodka!! hahahahahaha
i do precision machining on fired ceramics, for the telecommunication, microwave and cardiovascular industries.
as one of my ex employees put it very well, "IM A GLORIFIED PENCIL SHARPENER"
we take our customers prints, and machine ceramics, after they have been fired
with Rod diameter tolerances holding +/- 0.00015"and linear tolerances holding +/-0.002"
most of our products aid in UHF filtering, resonators that help the microwave industries change frequencies according to
thickness, diameter, and dialectric properties of certain materials.
the materials we machine are Beryllium oxide, Alumina Oxide, Macor, Quarts, Sapphire, and Zirconia
most of our product is in the .030" diameter x .600" long to .060" diameter x .450 long.
all diamond tooling.
I do all of this out of a 1400 SF shop in my back yard.
3 universal grinders, 3 surface grinders, 3 centerless grinders a bridgeport mill, and a 2 axis CNC gang tool lathe with live tooling.

Saw the effects of blocking the waste gate on a HX-35 turbo mounted on a 24V Cummins mounted on an engine dyne. The engine made about 25 psi boost and drive pressure in the 45-50 psi range with the stock adjustment (this engine was modified in other ways). With the wastegate held closed, boost went up to 32-37 psi but drive pressure (backpressure) climbed as high as 65 psi, EGTs went thru the roof. In truth,the engine was being overfueled and the next step was a turbo (non wastegated) to match which delivered 60 psi boost and 55 psi back pressure, lower EGTs, lots less smoke and much higher power. My point here is only to illustrate the effects of holding the wastegate closed as a "tuning tool" and that doing so is sometimes, if not often, counter-productive in the larger picture. IMO, knowing boost without knowing drive pressure is like overdriving your headlights on a dark road with a dark, moonless night. High drive/back pressure and high EGTs often go hand-in-hand.
I may need to talk to you about some non-truck related activities. Ever work in Macor?ive done just a tiny bit of work in machine able ceramics. It takes a lot of patients and good tooling.
Edit, I just went back and read closer and you listed macor. I may be shooting you an email about some work if I can't find someone local to do it reasonable.
idioit did you get an answe to your questions regard waste-gate adjust-ability and turbo pressure?
ive seen an idividual on the forum that pushes 22 psi out of his ats. he won a recent rally i believe. Could ask him if that turbo is moded or not. if the basic ats kit can hit 22 efficiently thats really impressive!
