Turbo up pipes

A few months back I found a used Hypermax turbo on Craigs list and did the install myself. I had to buy the down-pipe and a few other small parts to make it work, it did not come with up pipes and I decided to fab them up myself. Ive been useing these up pipes that I made, but performance is not as good as I hoped for. I have an exhaust leak from the start that I could not fix, Could my little exaust leak prevent the turbo from spooling up to work properly? It does have a whistle to it but does not sound quite right. any thoughts on this?

any leak upstream of the turbo will cause a reduction in boost, if you can get that leak sealed up, it would probably improve your boost...

I have a set of pipes for a hypermax pulse with an E4OD (I think) that you can have for the shipping cost... they should be fully functional
