From what I understand, the F350 was ttb equipped from 1980 until 1985. F350's were equipped with the Dana 60 in the 1986 model year.

I'm wondering because I'm embarking on a new project and as it stands, an F-350 TTB front axle assembly would be just what the doctor ordered

Just wondering: why don't you just bolt one of the plentiful (read cheap) TTBs out of an F250 to your project? There are lots of them out there as junkyards are littered with the F250 variant, just wondering why you'd want to look for a unicorn to start a project :dunno

My Dad had an '84 F350 crew like that. Its the same Dana 50 TTB used in the heavier F250s. (Dana 44 TTB used in regular F250.)

You'd likely prefer the 3 leaf/4000#-plus springs for that.

I'm alright with the idea of an F-250 TTB, but I know I need the GVWR weight rating capacity that the 350 offers. Were the F-250 and F-350 using the same components? If not, how am I to go about identifying the "light" or "heavy" F-250s?

Nothing changes the GAWR/GVWR label on your door jamb. Use the heaviest duty parts you like.

The D50TTB was rated at 4600# and the D60 was 5000#.

Easiest way to tell is the hub diameter. The 44TTB has the small D44 sized hubs (much smaller than the 8-lug wheel center hole). The 50TTB has the D60 sized hubs (much closer to filling the wheel center hole.)

The 50TTB was used from '80-97. Brake style improved around '95. The 8-lug 44TTB from '80 also, but I think it may have been dropped entirely in the early 90's sometime.

That's kinda my buggaboo, I'm working on a one ton, and I don't wanna handicap down to a 'weaker' part, which could arguably mess with my GVWR

I don't think I've ever seen a F350 with a 5k# front GAWR decal. I could be wrong.

Seems to me the decal figure was 4500-4600# whether it has a 60 or 50TTB. Brakes and wheel bearings are the same anyway.

EDIT: Better yet... use the 95-97 TTB and you get a brake upgrade.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to start digging through the bone yards just as soon as I don't need a snow shovel

85 was the first year for the Dana 60 in these trucks. 85 may have been a split year but all the 85 F350s I cut up had dana 60 fronts 3 or 4 of them, can't remember anymore.

eh the TTB isn't all that bad. Definitely rides better than the straight axle in my 99 F250. But then again it's a TRUCK.

205k miles on my 97 F250 w/ the TTB and I've gotten at least 40k miles out of each set of tires. I've never replaced the center pivot bushing and the alignment is dead on each time I've replaced the tires, 3rd set of balljoints so far.
