The title says it all. I'm trying to do the good ole " It will pay for itself " begging strategy.:D I want a turbo. So what I need is some fuel gains that you guys have experienced with your set-ups. I know there is info in the forum somewhere, I just can't find enough to make an average, It's seems to be all scattered around. Even if you only get 1 mpg more it's gonna pay for itself eventually.Haven't quite figured out the strategy for the head bolts and exhaust.......(help).............

Well, show her THIS PAGE from the Banks website. Click on the "Proof" link and it show detailed fuel economy gains and power gains from their turbo. I don't know if Hypermax or ATS have something similar or not.

Hope that helps.....;Sweet

The "it will pay for itself" strategy NEVER works for my wife...
Her logic is that I sold my 2007 Toyota Yaris (at a loss, by the way) and got this truck. The yaris got almost 40 mpg, so until someone comes up with a way to squeeze 40 miles out of a gallon of diesel on an IDI, i'm screwed on that strategy!!! LOL

I think the argument is simple. You could get a later-model more expensive vehicle or you could avoid that by making your old truck more usable by getting the turbo and save a pile of money. There is a reason that new trucks have turbos. Old trucks need to have a little bit of upgrades. Still MUCH cheaper.

Women and cars and logical thinking dont ever go together, except on VERY rare occasions.

The turbo wont save you as much as an intercooler for that turbo. Colder air lowers egt's and will boost fuel economy by 5 to 7 percent, while also extending the life of your oil, seals, valves, and overall engine life.

I had a c6 with 3.55's in my crew cab when I bought it stock (n/a) got 12 to 16 depending on speed and weight of foot.

swapped to a hypermax and zf5, same everything else. now average 17 to 21 depending on speed and weight of foot.

Not the most scientific but that is my actual readings on tank to tank long hauls, using my gps and odo to document miles (average of the two).

I've got a convincing argument for you.

I pay a ton of extra money a year for diesel fuel, because I figure whatever money I have left won't do me any good if I'm DEAD! And believe me, with the idiots I am surrounded with out here, my vehicle purchases just get bigger every year. Had a wreck in my 99 Ranger. Decided if it were bigger, I'd not have totaled it. Got rear-ended in my Bronco. Slightly damaged my Bronco's bumper, but her car had seen better days. The Excursion? God help whoever pulls out in front of me. If they are in a Yaris, they are gonna buy it. Big time.

here's the visual reinforcement on why the Honda Fit is so light.
all that's removed in the pic is the fender, headlights and bumper cover.
There is no way in hell any person in my family will be driving one of those.

No it's not easier for me. My number one mission in life is to make sure my family has a roof ,food , and water. I just work and give, I don't ask questions, until I have a discrepancy. As long as I come home and my boy smiles at me, I don't care where my money goes;Sweet. She watches my Boy everyday while I'm goneLOL
