Truck vs. Van Battery cables

Guys,

Will the van battery cables work on the trucks? I'm trying to hunt down a definitive interchange with no luck so far. I can find aftermarket parts that would seemingly interchange but I'm not seeing any OE part numbers. The only real difference I could see is possibly the distance to the starter solenoid and starter. Am I thinking about this correctly?

I really doubt van cables would work on a truck. I haven't looked too close at a truck's cables in a while, but the van front end is so much shorter and the batteries are probably in a different location. I just don't see it working out. Would probably have better luck just building new ones.

Actually...it's been a while, but I think the van batteries are in the same position relative to the starter as they are on the truck. I made new cables for my old van as well as for my truck, and granted this was a while ago (I did the van cables in 2001 and the truck cables in 2006), but I remember the lengths being broadly similar. The wire from the starter to the fender-mounted relay may be different, but that shouldn't be a serious problem...you can always cut and splice as needed.

With that said, unless you have a set of van cables laying around that are in good shape, I agree with Eric that you'll do better to just build new ones. It's really not that hard, and you can make sure they're properly done, as thick as possible, crimped and heat-sealed, etc. You can also use marine ring terminals so you can use stud-top batteries

All the searching I've done tells me that the truck cables will work on a van ( same part numbers) but that doesn't necessarily mean the converse is true. I've been down that road before. I happened on a good deal on a new set of van cables so I was considering chancing it. There are replacement cables available for the trucks but they are not cheap. Both sets I have are a little ragged so I thought it was worth considering.

You can get brand new cable assemblies from oreillys for around 100.00. They have em in stock. Thats what I have on mine. Good quality.
