Transmission not cooked

I had lost 2nd gear, and dropped the pan to find the wedge that goes between the band and adjuster screw in the bottom of the pan. Thinking my band was broke, but it back together and then started pricing parts to rebuild. Upon further thinking I took it apart again, and found the band to be in tact. Reinstalled both wedged, and adjusted to spec. Now all is good. I guess what happened is that it was so far out of adjustment, that the adjuster wedge just fell out. Any one else have this problem? I guess it goes to show that if something is adjustable, we need to check them periodically to make sure they are still with in spec. I learned that lesson the hard way.
