Trans problen RTLO14610b

my dads 94 freightliner has a super 10 speed trans w/850000 miles and has developed a grumble in 10th gear while coasting down a hill for example no noise when going up a hill or exelerating. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience working with this trans or knows of any common problems. It's getting pulled out in two weeks - hope I can bench 1800lbs.

If it is only growling in 10th it is most likely 1 or more worn countershaft bearings. Make sure that there is enough oil in it. That is the biggest killer. If the noise remians unchanged you can let it go as it is most likely the byproduct of wear. If it changes or starts to get worse you may want to consider getting a repolacement trans on hand.
