I guess the first question should be, what is the stock stall speed for a factory TC? I asked this question to Landis Converters in Leola PA when I had mine custom built. They couldn't answer that, but when I told them I wanted a stall speed around 1000 RPM's, they looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears. They said they could build what I wanted, but wouldn't be able to tell me the precise stall speed. They said it was more of an art than science, and that they go by the angle of the fins. But that "if it isn't to your liking, bring it back and we will fix it for you." Well, they got it right the first time. I don't remember what I paid for it. I think $250 or something in that neigborhood. I'd recommend them to anyone. The TCI one in your first link looks like a good choice if you don't want to go the route I did.

I can get a low stall for 110.00 and a severe duty low stall for 220.00. I have used these before and they do work nice, the severe duty is based on an Allison core ,fully brazed fins. the regular one has about 1/3 of the fins brazed. I have never had a problem with this convertor company and I have used litterally hundreds.
I would be happy to ship you one if you want. Figure 40 lbs.
Just read the links, the ebay one is the exact one I use.

the ebay seller's name is oregonperformancetransmission.

the last link i posted was to their direct site. for a Heavy duty, low stall, torque converter for the Ford C-6 transmission behind diesel applications. This converter has the heavy duty brazed turbine and torrington bearings.

this link goes to a page where if you scroll down to the bottom you can see the Allison based convertors. are they worth double the money for a 6.9 with a banks sidewinder and 3.55 gears?http://www.oregonperformancetransmi...reen=CTGY&Store_Code=OPTI&Category_Code=C6CON

They are very tough, it is your dollar, I would find out about shipping and if there is any core charge. My cost on the allison is 220.00 so they arent making much.

I replaced mine last summer and the one I got was one of the low stalls from oregonperformancetransmission. So far so good with mine! If I had the money I think Id try the TCI, But who knows if its actually any better than the others. Just remember don't reuse your old torque converter nuts.

I'm not sure if its even possible to get a stall speed as low as 1000 RPM. Generally they consider 1400 RPM to be a "low stall", a full 200 RPM lower than stock:rolleyes:LOL Don't let them charge you a silly premium for a 1400 stall converter either. There's no real extra cost for them to make one.

I would never pay $300 for a C6 converter unless it was gold plated though.

I have a Dacco diesel low stall and the 1400-1500 stall is too high.
I've got to agree with Mel, 1000 stall is the way to go.
Banks had a writeup on their website and he recomended 400 rpm below peak torque [w/turbo] and that puts ya right at 1000.
Just my .02.

Learn something every day. Didn't think that a 1000 RPM converter was even possible. Mine seems to start catching at 800-900, but when really pulling, it will go to 1500 before refusing to go any higher.

I had a converter built years back...900 stall that nearly stalled the engine [lightly modded 400] the first time I put it in gear ! Unfortunately the rebuilder did a s*** job and it tore apart after 6 mos., but yea it's possible.

Torque converter stall speed is the APPROXIMATE rpm at which the TC is at best efficiency/ full power transfer . The engine will rev to that area and then the truck will start moving, what David85 described is TC "flash" where it stalls too under heavy load.
