Anyone in Vancouver Wa do timing?

My problem is I sealed the timing gear cover on my '91 7.3 and did the intake manifold gasket, now my engine has a slight haze at cruising speed and a good amount of smoke at hard acceleration DEQ shows 69.% max is 50%

If no one is near that can time your truck, you could always rent Gary's meter and time it yourself - easy peasy!

Nobody in Vancouver is in the registry i all ready looked... There is a company called Caseys Independent Auto (are they reputable?) and they say they have a fairit (I know spelled wrong) timing meter, I know I need it around 9 to 9.5 (ATDC or BTDC?) my biggest problem is I can't wait for mailing with the rental....

What else shuld I ask them?
And does it sound like timing?

I know... Famous last words... But I'm POSITIVE the gear went on exactly how it came off it could only possibly be off one tooth.

Honestly anything is possible.
9-9.5 btdc is where most are set
Make sure the high idle is off the rest the shop should be ok on.
Read the sticky on timing before ya call!

I'm not a fan of using the ferret meters nor will I suggest using a timing light. Any Kent Moore meter be it the J33300 or the J33300-A use a microprocessor to time the engine so no lining up a timing light to get it correct. These meters can time to a 10th of one degree. you sure can't do that with a light.

You really should look on Ebay for these meters, they are a worthwhile investment!

I got one that way...

Just stay away from the ones with the red numbers...

I live in battle ground, WA, I don't have a timing meter, but when I had to get registration for my 94, for a few reasons(bad engine is one of them) I had to put my dad's address who lives out of town where deq is not required. Pretty much anywhere on WA side out of Vancouver they don't require deq, so if you need registration now and can't wait or afford to time your truck use a family or friends address.

So.... is the consensus that my timing is retarded??
And if so which way do I need to turn the gear(IF I installed it wrong LOL) to advance it?
