Time for Rebuild on 7.3L

Hey guys looking for some Ideas. My 1993 7.3L Dropped a valve on the number 8 cylinder and locked up the engine. I have not torn it down yet, but have confirmed what has happen. Looking at rebuilding the engine to keep the truck but would like to make a few upgrades. Possibly Turbo Charger, better fuel system. Yes Money is always a issue so don't want to go over board but do want to get the most I can out of the old 7.3l but still keep it dependable. Please give any Ideas or places to go to look for parts. I am sure I will need atleast one head. Possible just go with a long Block?? Let me know your thoughts

Welcome to the forum. Adding a turbo is the most bang for your buck you can do for these engines. Then upgrade the injection pump to a Moose Pump product. Mel at Conestoga Diesel Injection of Pa is the most informed member we have when it comes to injection pumps. He is known world wide for his pumps. My feelings are purchase a waste gated turbo and get the Banks kit. Then run the exhaust straight piped without any muffler. The turbo chops up the sound signature so well we don't need a muffler. Now when you are really working the engine its going to tell you its working by being louder. But what engine or diesel engine is not talking when its working hard. Best bet is to add ARP head studs. then the head gaskets will never blow because of over boosting the turbo. Please do time the new engine. nothing worse than not knowing what the timing is and leave some hp on the table.

Injectors..from same as pump
Electric lift pump

Promar will install studs and cam IIRC...so that may be a hot ticket idea.

Were are good places to get Long Blocks or Rebuild kits?

eBay has long blocks for around the $3000 range
7.3 blocks and complete come up on Craigslist all the time. If you find a Engine in this area I'm in I can look it over etc
And I could also pick it up for you.

I'd find a good used on CL before rebuilding your existing engine - unless you really, really like your truck!
