took the truck to Fallon NV this weekend to loan it to my son.
left at 1300 hrs.
everything went fine until I was 20 miles outside of Reno.
besides the 30 miles of a 3-6% grade. 3rd gear pinned.
I had previously used both tanks. and they both worked.
I was running low on the front tank, so I decided to flip to the rear.
fuel gauge instantly went to E.
so I assumed it switched and that the sender was fawked.
welp, past a chevton at 3.54/gal in NV. and thought to myself, that's CA prices, lets see what the next one is....
made it 4 miles and then it died.
unloaded the wifes car, had to spend 100$ in fuel cans...
all they had was 1 2 gallon can, and 4 1 gallon cans.
got the truck running again, made it to the next fill station, which wasn't any cheaper btw...
and she started surging and acting up.
got to Fallon about 1900 hrs.
in neutral, the truck would surge from idle to 2500 rpms by itself.
ive delt with a bit of air intrusion in the past and it never acted like this!
no air out of the Schrader valve.
just a nice stream of fuel.
so I thought that running it out of fuel sucked up some junk.
pulled the IP cover, and everything looked clean.
put it back together. got to Reno at 2200, pulled the filter.
filled it with ATF and went to bed.
got up in the morning, and it was alright for a while.
after a while it started sticking again, but not surging.
after a debacle of a no tail light issue. that I had to remedy by cutting the reverse light pig tail,
and running a wire to the 7 pin trailer plug, we now had tail lights when the ignition is on... better than none!
I did find 1 fuel line that was bloated, and weeping.
replaced that, no change.
it was running ok, with a little stick after you let off the fuel,
so me and the kid parted ways. him to Fallon, and I, back home with the wifes car.
he filled the filter with ATF again, let it sit overnight.
this morning he reports that the truck is running great again!!
whew!
cross your fingers for me.
when this truck gets back home.... im tearing the entire truck apart!!!
rebuild everything!
