What marine outfit are you with in Seattle? Another marine diesel tech up here in roche harbor. I used to work on a ton of work boats down in the Seattle area.

I’ve taught myself every welding process I’ve ever done, luckily I’ve made a hell of a living off welding steel. But 3 days into aluminum leaves a lot to be desired.

Hahaha. Yup. I’m in the same boat. Been welding steel for over 35years. Made a really good living and have never been with out work. Ive tried aluminum many times with a spool gun. Strong but ugly. Purchased a used tig set up and went after it. Still not great after 5years but it’s good enough for my personal jobs.

Pretty stoked, got keyed power hooked up to a relay inside the cab to power all the other crap I’ve put in. Gauges trans controller, fass fuel pump, and at some point my inverter.
I’ve got some trial and error on how to mount the trans controller this time around, I want to make it cleaner but I have nearly zero experience with 3d printing and I can’t be teaching myself ac tig AND 3d stuff, my brain doesn’t have the capacity
On another note I fudged my old alumn rad and champion was out. So I took a chance on an off brand 4 core. I like this one quite a bit more. Solely for the bracing from the core to the end tanks, I don’t like the rad cap or the trans cooler fittings but I’ll make due.

Sorry for the nearly 2 month hiatus. Had to go work outta town for a bit. I’m busting my ass now that I’m home getting this thing out back together, as I’m trying so dam hard to make it to NO BS OBS this year.
I’ve been having a bleeding the injectors problem. I can’t get the pump to send any fuel to the injection lines. It all bypasses into the return system (also how I figured out my return line wasn’t hooked up and just dumpin it all on the ground there went 2ish gallons of diesel) I’ve messaged Justin and hope we can get this figured out. Right now I’ve gone the swap the ole stocker back on so I can have this thing run and drive to the show.
My whole goal is to have this thing ready to go to the show and be able to mingle with everyone and share in the blood, sweat and swear words

On another note I went to The Dalles, OR to do a contaminated material offload. Got bit by a spider, my ******** didn’t go to the doctor (probably should have) but spider bites weren’t the crowning achievement of my trip.
Other than a sensor issue my crane caught on fire (electrical) with a full 7 yard bucket (overloaded to about 8.25yrds) got the job done with only hitting 1 piece of equipment. I mean that’s pretty good for the crane catching fire and dropping the load out the sky. Thank god I was quick to react.

He is alive!

Took allot of work to get here. Old pump had to go on to get it going, but now that I know what was going on, should go back together just enough to make it to NobS OBS

Ok hive mind. Does this sound like fuel knock? The exhaust hasn’t cleaned up, there’s a bit of blowby. Exhaust kinda burns ya eyes.

That is 100% fuel knock. You probably have a stuck injector pintle.

Turned out from my own ignorance or maybe it was always like that (the crew cab did run like crap) the wiring for the FSS was wired into the cold start advance AND the high idle. So it was always advanced
He is running a hell of a lot better now.

Definitely a lot better. Still odd, shouldn't have been knocking with the fast idle and timing advance on. I'd put a bunch of fuel cleaner in it to lube it up and keep an eye on it. I had an injector seize up internally after 2000 miles.

What I am thinking is a it was way to advance to begin with, to much fuel pressure advanced it some more, plus whatever the timing advance was for the cold start. That plus the old pump trying to keep up with new injectors. It has some stiction eleminator in it. But I’ll add some more stuff

Poor project has been on the back burner, but I got the 90cc slapped in and found my massive oil leak…. Didn’t tighten the valve cover bolts… that’s what I get for coming n going so much on this thing.
