Could someone please show me not only the location of the TECA, but a picture of it?

I don't mean the TECA relay, (Or ECC in the engine fuse box.)

I mean the TECA itself.

Lots of talk about it. No real helpful information!

I believe on the '92 the TECA may be best reached from inside the cab. I think it's to the left of your left foot, behind the kickboard which, in turn, is behind the parking brake. Take a look. OTOH, the connection is handled from the other side of the firewall.

The TCM is located next to the E brake. Remove the kick panel. From the out side, remove the 10mm bolt from the harness.

Pull the TCM out from the inside.

Thanks guys.

I take it that I have to remove the parking brake to get to this, right?

92+ trucks the TECA pulls out in the engine compartment, you may have to undo some of the inner fender to get it to clear. You could pull it from in the cab but you would have to pull the ebrake, steering column and the large aluminum support that holds all of that and the dash.

87-91 come out inside the cab.

Related - I found this:

To everyone that has a 90's or newer Ford with the E4od transmission.
DO NOT Run your truck with the HAZARD lights on.
By doing so will cook your transmission.
The torque converter lock up solenoid is controlled by your brake lights. Every time they flash they switch the solenoid on/off.
By doing that it ends up destroying your transmission

That only applies for the 87-91 trucks and that will also make your trailer brakes do the same thing if you put the hazards on. 92 and up ford change the turn signal switch so the brake light switch is disconnected when the hazards are on which introduces another problem for 92-93 trucks where the brake wire is left floating and tells everything on the wire that the brakes are applied. In 94 ford finally fix 90% of the problems with the addition of the third brake light and in 99 up finally fixed it right with a new brake switch that separates the lights from the computers that rely on the brake switch.

For the 87-91 guys all you need to do is put a diode in before the turn signal switch and a resistor before the diode to fix this problem.

Edit:
I haven’t played with an E4OD for a bit but I’m pretty sure when you tap the brake pedal and the tcc is disengaged it waits a few seconds before re-engaging so I don’t think this is ever a problem.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yep, on my '90 I found out that it was a bad idea to turn the flashers on when towing. However, I've had occasion to use the emergency flashers on my 94 while Towing our 30 foot trailer. I didn't notice the same thing, that's why I was asking...
