i am going to call straight BS on too much boost from a 093
i have been cramming 25 psi to a head bolted engine for years.

what i would do with this is take a stainless steel 1/8" pipe plug.
put it in.
preheat it to 400*
TIG weld with 309L
either post cool, or stick in the sand blasting cabinet

Unfortunately, I don't have a tig welder. I could be mistaken about the too much boost/head gasket, but to my untrained eye, there is evidence of soot in places outside the fire ring. On top of the scorched gasket, and the corresponding head bolts being black soot coated.

I've never worked on a diesel before, so this might be common, though.

i would call that, a head change with a lack of checking the deck, you can clearly see where the fire ring was sealing against the pre cup, but not against the head.
