T19 vs ZF and a rattle.

I took the clutch, PP and flywheel off the 6.9 I just took on trade yesterday...The clutch looks identical to what is in my ZF....SMF, the disc has springs and it's hardly even worn. It was supposed to be new about 5 years ago with very little use since. My dummy ZF input shaft slide right in. Do both trans use the same clutch master cylinder and slave piston? They look the same.....I might have to take the 5spd out of my truck, I have a rattle coming from my BH area that I can't find. The dust shield is tight and the clutch works A1.....I'm thinking maybe it's the release bearing rattling under load, it seems to be most noticable at slow speeds in 2nd and 3rd gear....It like to fix it before it leaves me stranded somewhere.

I also had a look at the 7.3 in the 94 cube I just bought, appears to have a new IP, tee's and possibly some injectors....The rad also looks like it's been recored, it still has the paint on it.

Probably gear rollover. Check some of cheaperjeepers thread about the conversion to a zf in his truck. I personally think the noise is cause by p!$$ poor engineering by zf when they designed the trans.

No, this just started recently. I have a SMF - I'm used to the gear roll over noise....This is like a marble rolling around inside th exhaust if you can picture the sound it would make.

Probably the throwout bearing then. Not much else in there will make that type of noise

When it's making that noise, put a little pressure on the clutch pedal and see if it goes away. More times than not, if it's the throwout, that will put a little tension on it and the noise will stop. If it doesn't stop, I wouldn't throw out the idea that the bearing is bad, but if it does, it kind of tells you it's noisy. Not to mention, it's a cheap test!

if it is the throw out bearing i have this same problem, is this something to be concerned about and replaced in a timely manor? Can it do alot of damage if it comes apart.

It can eat the pressure plate if it seizes

I'm not 100% it is my throw out bearing, I have to pull the fork and take a look....It's a wierd sound. The clutch works A1 but the noise does go away if you put some pressure against it so all signs point to the bearing....Atleast with my divorced t-case setup pulling the trans is easy, I don't have to touch the t-case or the front driveshaft.
