After riding in Travis Hot Rod Cummins at the IDI weekend, and seeing how awesome his exhaust brake was I decided that I wanted to get one myself.

So HERE IT IS

I know that I will have to replace my down pipe in the near future, so when I do I will install the exhaust brake at the bottom of the 3" DP, then go with the existing 4" exhaust system from there.

Looks like a pretty good deal, and I just couldn't pass it up.

Has anyone used one of these on an IDI with a C6 before?

I thought the C6 didn't have a locking torque converter? If so I am not sure how efficient it will be. Does that thing need an aux pump to run it? Seems like a good price for a cool mod though! Keep us posted on results!

If you have ever seen the lack of frction material in the lockup TC's on our trucks, you'd want to keep it out of lockup as much as possible. there's a reason why the late model trannies have completely redesigned convertors. A C-6 is not going to be as "efficent" as a E4DOA, but longevity is priority versus efficency. Darrin also has a pretty bulletproof cooler setup, so whatever load is further thrown on the trans, the coolers should be able to keep the temps down. One suggestion tho, do look into stronger valvesprings, the exhaustbrake will give reason for the valves to float easier.

Trust me you'll like the EB, as Calvin said I would be looking into some exhaust springs - might check with Ken and see if he can get some with more poundage because as he says the EB can float the exhaust valves (remember your running hyd lifters).

When he says the throttle switch all you need is a switch that will make contact with the lever on the injection pump so that when it's closed the brake will engage if the control switch in the cab is set - not like mine which is only running on the clutch switch and shifter mounted switch - trust me I have pulled away from many a stop light with the brake still engaged ;p cookoo :D She about hits the pavement when that happens

You really dont want to put that on a 22 to 1 motor. I have seen a many 6.9/7.3 come a part from what you are about to do. International sent out a memo a while back that said do not use any exhaust brake on these motors as engine failure was more than likely going to result.

Can you elaborate on the nature of the failures? If it can be attributed to weak exhaust springs, I think we've already identified that as an issue to look at.

I talked with Ken today and the only concern he had was on the turbo itself, so I called Banks and they said it would not be a problem.

I will put it on and see how it does. I wont be hualing 20K down a mountian every day so It wont see a "lot" of abuse. Mostly will be used on wekend camping trips.

Travis, I see what you are saying about the switch, seems like I could come up with something easy enough to make that work.
I will know better when I get my hands on it. It was shipped out today:thumbsup:
