Baught a 1993 F 250 from dealer in PA. Ran great always started. 1st day on the job made 3 stops in the am, after 3rd stop it would not start had to get it towed. Was told the batteries were dead. Put a charge on them was told they were good. 2 days later it would not start again after driving 30 miles and a 30 min meeting.I changed the batteries I saw a big differance in the cranking once I changed the batteries and for the last 3 days started evert time. And now today here I sit one more time after driving about 30 miles and sitting for about 30 min it won't start again. This is my 1st diesel. Really need to keep it running. Any suggestions?

Easiest solution would be the ignition cylinder worn. Try wiggling the key next time you start it and see if it makes the charging guage move.
From there you need to move through the more expensive parts of the charging system

What condition are the batt cables in? also if the cables are good put some conductive grease on all batt connections. check with a wrench all connection from the batt to the starter.

I think it's a heat soak issue. What that means is your injection pump is old enough that when it gets hot it won't pump the necessary fuel to each cylinder because of it's condition.

How many miles are on the engine? If you've got over 100,000 and the original IP, chances are it's time for an upgrade.

X2 on what Brandon said....

My 93 suffered from the SAME issue. I put a baby Moose pump in it, at the '09 rally and haven't had an issue since!

Welcome to the forum. This does sound like the injection pump is needing to be replaced but... How does the truck start on a cold motor. How long is the "wait to start" lite on. How long will it crank before starting when cold... Mel does know these motors and pumps. Are the return line caps painted grey... Now if the motor wont start easly after the rig warms up then it may be the pump has a heat soak issue. Try to anwaer some of these questions so a better idea of what going on. Your issues sound simple and easy to fix but no need to be throwing parts and money at it till you answer some of these questions.

Hi Mike. Glad to see you found the right place. ;Sweet

For the rest of you, Mike came to us via my neighbor who gave him my phone number. He's in close proximity to me so I have offered to help him out. He's new to the IDI, so he's a knowledge sponge at the moment.

Hi Mike, welcome!

Could it be the alternator is not charging the batteries full? Or a false contact in the cables? I would check the easy to fix things first.

Burt.
