seems low on power. time for injectors?

hey guys new to the forum. i have a 1987 ford f250 with a 6.9 na with a c6 trans. 150k or 250k miles on it bought it used so not sur how many times the odomiter has rolled over. so heres whats going on. the truck seems to have less power then when i bought it a year and a half ago. and the idle has gotten a littel rough when at a stop light but above idle it smoths out. i do get some black smoke out the tail pipe if i put the pedale to the metal. i really notice the loss in power up hills i lose speed. the injectors look factory to me because it looks like the same color paint on them has the valve covers. do these symptoms sound like worn out injectors or another type of problem. if injectors can i replace just the injectors and keep the same i.p. and another qustion is can the timing change as the engen wears trhowing it off. thanks

Typically the pump and injectors need to be replaced around 100,000 to 120,000 miles, some get more out of them. They're usually pretty bad by this point. I suppose they could go to 150,000. I believe that the timing changes as the pump wears. I've experienced that myself. I know you probably don't want to hear it, but since you think they're all stock, I'd say replace the pump and injectors. You'll be glad you did.

ive noticed that both my truck and my gasser jeep are gutless in heat.it was explained to me that it was thinner air? something along those lines.

thanks for the info guys if i drop the cash for ip and injectors will there be noticable power gain? do worn out injectors/ip rob me of that much performance

When I replaced my injectors last spring, I thought it felt like I gained about another cylinder of power. Just make sure you buy new ones like Mel (agnem) sells. I'm going to have to spring for a new pump now myself. I'm just putting it off until I replace my four speed with my zf5. I just want to see the changes in small steps. Injectors were well worth it to me.

Never buy rebuilt injectors. I guess if money is talking a rebuilt is better than a bad injector but really. No shop can rebuild them and sell them for half the cost of a new set and still make money. What your buying is a cleaned injector with the old parts in it. I have re shimmed many injector and know the work involved. Time is money too.
