Screw it, I am turboing my truck!

I got that ats 093 here just waiting to go on teh crew cab. Money is tight right now, so I am going to turby the extended cab for the time being.

I know, why would you turbo an engine with 520 000 kms on it and never had head gaskets done? Who cares. If it blows, I will just gasket it with the new kit I have at the shop. No cost to me!! I will just need another kit when the time comes.

The flanges on the crossover pipe are SHOT. Can I use a cheap split flange?

What about drilling out the studs in the exhaust manifolds, and usiong plain old nuts and bolts? This is what my boss did when they had the 366 and 427 gas dump trucks....he said it was WAY easier than screwing with studs when they burned and rusted off.

Turbo grommets.....what did you guys make yours from?

Intake/snail hat seals What do I need here? Can one be made or should I just buy one somewheres?

I don't wanna blow this thing all to pieces, I just want to see what I am in for when I get that other motor going . This won't be as powerful, but it will at least let me truck beat my buddy's V6 toyota.....yea I know, 3000 pound v6 truck against an 8000 pound slug...but I can walk all over him at 70 MPH....just not from the basement to 60 MPH.

Chris, I was able to unscrew the studs from 3 different sets of manifolds I have worked on without the hot wrench. I chased them and installed new ones. Don't give up on them right out of the gate.

Oil return grommet for the drain is just a factory grommet with a mister gasket breather grommet glued into the center with silicone. Do a search of my posts and you'll find the right part number. Hasn't leaked a bit since. As for the CDR grommet I'm figuring that out right now myself. The studs usually come right out as easy as can be. I haven't had to heat a set yet. Split flanges work just fine so you should be good there.

I reused all the old ones that came off the engine. A little permatex and no leaks so far. Havent drove hardly any yet. Damn batteries took a **** last night.

On you battery issue.... I just put a set of Interstate blems in my 6.0. They were less than $40 a battery...... I think they were $76.00 for the pair, out the door. Changed them in the parking lot. The real test for my, and my truck, was the last set I had, if I would start and pull the truck out, shut it off, start it later and back it back in, the nest day, it may not start. With the new blems, I have pulled it out and back in a few times, then it sat for almost 2 weeks, since I have been sick. We went to leave, and they fired is back up like I had just driven it..... well worth the money.

Looking at Interstate's website, there are a few dealers in your location... there are 3 dealers there in Cadiz.... not sure if they had blems, I got mine from a local Interstate All Battery Center / Distributor.

Good luck on the install.... I know many have put a turbo on with alot of miles, and not had an issue.... you should be ok.... and then you will enjoy the new found power.

But, be prepared to have less fuel economy at first..... most guys see that, since they are using the new found power..... and of course the whistle!!!

i snagged 2 31VHD interstates that are blems but new for 100 bucks for both. Helps being a interstate dealer!

I second the bad millage at first. I went from 15 to 8-12 lol. Driving it easy it has no problem getting decent millage

...that mileage thing happened when I glasspacked it. Then again when I stacked it with the 4" launchers . But I'll be damned if a little whistle is going my make my right foot heavy!!

Good luck with that lol. Block the wastegate and shell whistle like no tomorrow. Mines pretty dang loud. Also, I have no idea how many miles are on mine, knock on wood 13-14 psi and she still runs great. I usually run at 80 down the highway with power to spare with my 38s. This is with a stock factory turbo.

My head gaskets do get a little seepy when high psi is held for long periods of time lol.

The manifolds are 7/16 NC, I used some stock Ford transmission BH to engine bolts for my truck with some almost never-sieze. They were a ******* to get out, rusted in there ******* the 6.9 but on the 7.3 you gave me they came out with the arc welder and some nuts no problem...
