I ran down to Vegas today after work and picked up this:

for $30!!! It's a 78-0200 model.

The box circled in blue is the 7.3 adapter. The probe (kind of) circled in yellow is the magnetic timing probe. The wire circled in red and the plug-thing circled in green aren't referenced in the instruction manual, so I'm not sure what they are.

One small problem, though. The luminosity probe wasn't there. I called the seller back and he said he'd look around for it, if he couldn't find it he'd do some research online and get back to me. Does anyone know if this item is obtainable?

Yeah I contacted the guy for the meter and told him I wanted it but he wasn't sure how to ship. Then I pm'ed the original poster to see if he could pick it up for me, like he offered in his post, but he never got back to me.

Would of been nice to have but oh well. Good luck finding the probe. I don't think there available so your going to have to find someone selling it seperate, good luck.

That's why I'm not losing sleep over not getting it, "it" being someone elses problem of missing items.

yeah.the best bet is likely to just get the ferret adapter today for personal use i think.still sucks they run over $150 even for those is the thing,and you need a timing meter already or have to buy one too.
seems silly after all this time,that's there not a more cost effective way for timing a 20 year old truck.its sickening.
i don't know whatever happened to the guy here who wanted to trade a pick up for a probe.
im in $250 and months latter still unable to time my truck.
i should have took it to a shop instead.

That's what I keep trying to tell everyone. Those ford/rotunda and Snap on units are a neat novelty item , but in reality , they are a worn out 20+year old chunk of thrown around, abused shop equipment, that almost nobody who buys the blamed things ever gets a complete one or one that works. Those antiques are great for folks who have some extra cash to blow on collecting old tools and if they buy enough of the things they'll have a working model or two or three after a while, but if you just need to get a reliable tool to time your truck, then you *need* to get a Ferret

As far as taking it to a shop, that's a non starter. Just about all shops would have lied to you. you ask if they can time the thing and if they have teh equipment. They assume that means plugging in a computer module and when you get there and there's no place to plug it in, they just twist the pump and time it by ear and when you are digging your glow plug tips out of your heads 6 months from now, you will be scratching your head wondering if you *really* saved any money on that decision
And don't think the dealer would be any different, there's a reason all these Rotunda timing meters are on the open market. Dealers are only required to support vehicles for 8-10 years , after that , they can get rid of the special tools required to support them, and they have to , because with all the new special tools required with each new model year, they would have no room in their tool crib

I have two of these kits with no lumy probe. I tried getting a Snap-on mt160 to work with it and it was a no-go.

I'm thinking this may be a difficult part to find. I spent about twenty minutes on the phone this morning being shuttled between four different people before I was finally told that the internet may be the best way to find this. Yay.
