My truck has severe rusting on the top of the cab and around the rear window, is there any way to get rid of it so I can repaint it? The pictures say it all, it look pretty bad and it is.

Sand, rust converter, primer then paint.

As bad as that is you probably won't get it perfectly smooth but at least you can get it all the same color.

sand it and hit it with a rust killer primer. then paint it. mine had cab lights and the roof rotted out where the lights were leaking. i ripped the lights off and the metal is swiss cheese so i'm gonna fiberglass/bondo the roof and paint it.

I had thae same problem on my 85. I started with 220 grit on a DA. Cleaned up good. Squirted some Por 15 paint. Scuffed the Por 15 with the DA. Than appllied Por 15 primer. Sanded that and applied a filler primer (thick auto primer) A little sanding and a few coats of primer will smooth the roof out.:D

In my experience, POR works very well. Be sure to inspect/POR the roof from the inside of the cab if as it's often overlooked and will be a source for future rust recurrence.

Yep POR 15 is GOOD stuff. I use it on all my classic car restorations. be sure to get the whole system, metal ready, marine clean, rust preventative paint, then TOP COAT IT. You cant leave the POR rust preventative paint exposed to sunlight or it will not last long.
