Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

I'm quite certain it has never locked up. I know what it should sound like when locked and I've Definately never heard it. While the fan work g properly will probably keep me under 250*, I'm still a little apprehensive that it will keep me as cool as others are claiming to be. If the fan really does partially engage before full lockup I can see it helping, but From what I've read, getting a new clutch to even work correctly is hit or miss on these trucks.
