return line cap failure problem

for the second time in as many months my drivers side rear most return line cap has gotten a pin hole in the side and started to spew diesel everywhere. the first time it happened i thought i might have put in too much fuel additive and it had been eaten away. this time i got a new cap from ford and didnt use and additives. any thoughts?
It is also strange that right before it happened my truck suddenly started to run really well and seems to run well with the leak. I have no idea what the problem might be

I'd replace that injector. Quite possible that the pintle is sticking open and allowing exhaust gasses to be forced into the injector, super heating it.

I hadnt even thought of exhaust gasses going into the cap and heating it up. I will check that out tomorrow and let you guys know. thanks for the replies i was having a hard time figuring out how a return line could cause the problem because it seemed like the o rings would just start leaking before the cap exploded.

I agree with Mel. If you are getting holes or exploding caps, there is likely a problem with that injector. Hot exhaust being forced through the injector will kill that cap in short order.

That fuel additive will not hurt the caps or return lines. You should use that stuff with each fill up to help prevent premature failure of your injection pump and injectors. Lube is good in tight places ya know.
