Replacing nv273, now the selector quit!

Hey guys, dad's transfer case bit the dust, his fault. Anyways, we travel for a living in a camper, the tc leaked dry, he never caught it and developed a bad rattle. This weekend his buddy pulled it when the new one from napa arrived, the new one is in 4hi, and when they tried to move the motor to 4hi it wouldn't line up, and then the service 4wd light pops on and now the selector won't light up and the motor doesn't move, still have power at the plug. We are down.

It is a 2010 cummins with nv273d

Anyone?? The trucks still in the shop, still down everything is in but can't get the 4wd electronics to respond.

For future reference, the motor had cycled too far around, had to be turned back into range for it to be picked up by sensor
