Rear main seal instalation

How far does the seal need to be set into the plate? I have the new one flush right now, but the old one was recessed in a bit. Also I have a round gasket in the seal kit about the size of the crank hub, What is it for?
Any other tips on doing this? I have the plate off to reseal the oil pan lip.

The search worked for finding info on bolt torque, but no other info on rear main. Someone here has to have done one.
Why do I need to replace the flywheel bolts? They done look like a torque to yeild bolt, and the torque is below 50ft-lbs
